Governor Scharzenegger: Standing Strong In Defense of Marriage

Prop 22 - Protect MarriageAnd respecting the majority will of the people.

AP reports: “Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday he will veto a bill that would have made California the first state to legalize same-sex marriage through its elected lawmakers.

Schwarzenegger said the legislation, given final approval Tuesday by lawmakers, would conflict with the intent of voters when they approved an initiative five years ago. Proposition 22 was placed on the ballot to prevent California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states or countries.”

Why bother voting, if liberals circumvent the process?

We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote,” the governor’s press secretary, Margita Thompson, said in a statement. “Out of respect for the will of the people, the governor will veto (the bill).”

Proposition 22 stated that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” The bill to be vetoed by Schwarzenegger would have defined marriage as a civil contract between “two persons.”

Leave it to Democrats to override the will of the majority. “Tolerance” is only acceptable on their terms.

Clearly he’s pandering to an extreme right wing, which was not how he got elected,” said Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, one of the bill’s sponsors. “He got elected with record numbers of lesbian and gay voters who had not previously voted for a Republican, and he sold us out.”

This is standard liberal “spin” (i.e. lying) without regard for transparency of the facts.

(a) Prop. 22 passed with majority support from California voters - 61.4% (4,618,673)
Hardly an “extreme right wing.” Just throw-away rhetoric.

(b) “Record numbers of lesbian and gay voters,” as if to imply they should sway the majority rule.

    i. San Francisco, the gay mecca of America, has fought against Schwarzenegger on every occasion.

ii. What, exactly, is the percentage (number) of gay voters? Estimates of population range from the liberal (5%) to the conservative (1-3%). Even at the liberal marker, that would still leave over 56% non-homosexuals voting in favor of the bill.

(c) The only reason this matter is still an issue is because special interests are driving it.

On February 19, 2004, the city of San Francisco filed a lawsuit against the state challenging the law. This lawsuit came out at the same time that San Francisco city officials illegally issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Arnold got elected by promising to be the “People’s Governor,” not the “Gay Governor.”

Let’s hope he won’t bend over to political pressure.

Our granddaughter in California was turned down for a teaching job, because she only had one yr. of Spanish. She got a job at a private school. She now teaches in Rancho Cucamonga, second grade.

Had an interesting conversation with a lady of Hispanic origin last week. She told me that she planned to come down to St. Mary’s and get a job in Admissions (where I work). When I pointed out that we didn’t have any openings, she advised me that “soon” current employees will have to be fired to hire bi-lingual employees. According to this lady, the Spanish-speaking people of the US are going to demand that all public facilities like hospitals, courthouses, etc. - be staffed by people who read, speak and comprehend Spanish.

We hear about the silent majority, but I think we are going to have to speak up or find ourselves a conquered country. That would be an interesting historical note - greatest land in the world conquered by Mexico without ever firing a shot! Think about it.

Petition to require citizenship to be eligible for social services in the United States. No amnesty and no free services for illegal immigrants.
I, the undersigned below, agree that we need to keep English as our primary language and those who live in our country need to learn ENGLISH, NOT make the US citizens conform to Spanish.
