Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) reports: “The front page of just about every newspaper this weekend noted the anti-war protest of Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier who was killed in Iraq. The Democrats have jumped on board Ms. Sheehan’s protest, casting her and her message as heroic examples for the rest of the nation.”

“While Democrats are busy making Cindy Sheehan their spokesman and avatar of their views, we see her as yet another example of how critics of Israel within the Democratic Party have taken control of the party’s agenda.

If Cindy Sheehan’s ideas are what the Democrats have to offer, then more and more American Jews will continue to see that there is no place for them in the Democratic Party.”

Truth be told, we’re not sure there’s a great concern of that really happening. Unfortunately. Historically, Jews have gravitated towards Democrats because of a perpetuated myth that Republicans don’t welcome them. And nothing could be further from the truth.

In a letter to Nightline, Ms. Sheehan wrote that the entire Iraq War was part of a neo-conservative plot to benefit Israel:

“Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel.”

This kind of liberal rhetoric is, hopefully, bringing the facts to light for Jews in America and elsewhere. Thanks to the RJC for promoting a better understanding.

Republicans and the Bush administration are working to achieve democracy in Iraq to create an anchor of stability in the Middle East. That’s the goal. Exporting freedom to a people who have been long oppressed. The future success of this effort is not only in the best interest of Israel, but also benefits the entire world.

Radical states and ruthless dictatorships are a threat to every nation, especially those closest to them.

Peace is cultivated in democracy, not religious extremism. But not everyone agrees.
