Homosexuals Pushing “Gay Marriage” In California

Homosexual Activists Pushing Hard For Marriage In CaliforniaThe Sacramento Bee reports: “Legislation to make California the second state to permit gay marriage was rejected by the Assembly early today, marking the latest twist in a fiercely contested national movement.

“The bill failed passage by six votes on its second roll call, shortly after midnight.

The final tally came nearly five hours after an initial vote that sparked a flurry of behind-the-scenes lobbying and arm-twisting but didn’t change anyone’s mind.”

These are “elected officials” working under the auspices of promoting the will of “the people.” What’s remarkable here is that California voters have already expressed their position on this matter: voting resoundingly against homosexual marriage.

As VoteYesMarriage.com notes: “Five years ago, Californians gave overwhelming support (61.4%) to Proposition 22, the Protection of Marriage Initiative (a statute, a regular law on the books, which was not an amendment to the California State Constitution).”

The people’s will to keep marriage between one man and one woman was unmistakable. Proposition 22, which became Family Code, Section 308.5 clearly stated that “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

So what’s going on?

[J]udges and politicians have ignored and blatantly assaulted the people’s vote. Reasoning that they could easily ignore Proposition 22, these judges and politicians made themselves superior to the voters, the very opposite of Abraham Lincoln’s cherished vision of “government of the people, by the people, and for the people,” by undermining marriage at every opportunity. That’s wrong.”

Indeed. But liberal “tolerance” only extends to those who agree with them. Defiance is a symptom revealing their true political arrogance. Voters are pawns for manipulation. First, appeal to their hearts. Then, if that doesn’t work, go around their backs.

Assemblyman Mark Leno, a San Francisco Democrat who wrote the measure, AB 19, said it will be reconsidered today.

I’d have loved to see it happen tonight — but it’s not over until it’s over,” Leno said.

It was “over” five years ago, Mark. Get over that.

PlanetOut Gay & Lesbian News reports: “SUMMARY: A bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in California was defeated twice, on Wednesday and Thursday. Can supporters get enough lawmakers to pass the bill on Friday?”

Or will they recognize majority rule? The Assembly faces a Friday deadline for either rejecting or approving, then sending to the Senate, any bill written by its members.

UPDATE: (6/3) SacBee reports: “Gay marriage measure doomed by Democrats

That’s quite a “news” headline. Almost sounds pressuring.

Rejection of gay marriage by the California Assembly in tense votes Wednesday and Thursday was due largely to about a dozen Democrats who declined to vote for an issue pushed by their party leader.

Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, a gay legislator who proposed Assembly Bill 19, described himself as enormously disappointed late Thursday after daylong lobbying fell short.”

Like we said before: Get over it, Mark. The California voters have spoken. Stop pushing your special agenda.

The issue was so emotionally charged that Assemblyman Alberto Torrico, D-Newark, broke down and cried Wednesday night while embracing gay state Sen. Carole Migden, after opting not to support the bill.

Another weeping politician. Maybe he needs a hug from Sen. George Voinovich.
