Rove: Democrats Wrong on War on Terror
“The Architect” turned up at a two day GOP meeting today. Here’s some of what Mr. Rove said:
Embattled White House adviser Karl Rove vowed Friday to make the war on terrorism a central campaign issue in November and said Democratic senators looked “mean-spirited and small-minded” in questioning Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. “Republicans have a post-9/11 worldview, and many Democrats have a pre-9/11 worldview,” Rove told Republican activists. “That doesn’t make them unpatriotic, not at all. But it does make them wrong, deeply and profoundly and consistently wrong.”
Making the war on terrorism the central campaign issue is what I’ve expected all along. In fact, it’s why I’m not buying into all of the doom and gloom reports that Democratic gains will be significant. If there’s a subject that’s a winner for Republicans, it’s the GWOT.
This strategy also fits perfectly with the messages of Harry Reid of “We just killed the Patriot Act” fame, John Murtha of “Our soldiers are living hand to mouth” fame and Howard Dean of “We can’t win” the war in Iraq fame. Imagine all the negative, and frankly pacifist, quotes that Democrats made that are perfect fits in campaign spots.
I suspect that Senate candidates will get a healthy barrage of questions on how they’ll vote in confirming judges, too. This is a particular vulnerability of Mr. Casey in Pennsylvania. If he says that he won’t be a partisan on this issue, he loses the moonbats. If he sides with the moonbats, he loses the election. That’s a defensive position just waiting to happen, in my opinion.
It’s good to see The Architect back in the mix on this. If he’s able to be a hands on manager of the overall campaign, expect the Republicans to beat expectations.
