U.S. and Mexico: What Border Security?

Sometimes a picture says more than words…

Mexican military incursions into US

But Michelle Malkin has plenty to say on the subject, and she provides an excellent round-up of other bloggers covering this important news.

“The borders remain the path of least resistance into the country,” rightly observes Bryan Preston, while posing the most salient question: “Do we feel lucky enough to keep them largely undefended?”

UPDATE: (1/26)

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison on Wednesday demanded the Department of Homeland Security investigate a border standoff between U.S. lawmen and about 20 heavily armed drug smugglers wearing Mexican military-style fatigues.

“I am deeply concerned,” Hutchison, R-Texas, said in a statement. ”I urge (Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael) Chertoff to fully investigate this matter and report to Congress the details and confirm whether or not Mexican military officials were involved.”

Michelle Malkin: “The War At The Border: Escalation”

LaShawn Barber weighs in with strong words:

First, fire Michael Chertoff, the homeland insecurity chief. Second, send heavily armed troops to the southern border now!

This is outrageous. Outrageous! I am ill-suited to be “in power” because if I had the arsenal and the might to keep foreigners — so-called hard workers, bums, whatever — from entering this country illegally and Mexican thugs (including Vicente Fox) from terrorizing U.S. citizens and dictating our foreign policy…

Actually, if only we had people “in power” who share this outrage (as we do), maybe the problem would be dealt with seriously.

Q: Why did no one (or very, very few) cross the Berlin Wall?
A: Our homeland security is no joke.

I’m just a country boy, understand, and have a hard time understanding some things sometimes.

Like, if one of our boys stepped into Mexico, we’d have an international incident, right? And the NYT would have a field day explaining how it’s all part of an expansionist, imperialist plan. You can bet Mexico would have multiple divisions stationed at that point of the border within hours, with all of their advanced weaponry and ICBM’s and nukes and everything, right?

Well, they’d at least go whining to that center for universal justice, the U.N., and boy, would they ever whip us into shape then for trying to make Mexico our next conquest.

If so much as one lousy foreign soldier (Mexican, Guatemalen, Nicauraguan, Russian or otherwise) sets foot on our dirt without an invitation from our government, it seems to me we’d have every right by international law to counterattack in whatever manner it took to stop it from happening again. Just once, and I’d be willing to bet it wouldn’t happen again.

    Further comment would be superfluous.

I think we should return the favor and invade the border towns to secure our homeland from all those damned drug cartels

Obviously, Matthew, my quandry over the situation is beyond your grasp. What part of it do you not understand? I know what part you don’t agree with - the part about defending ourselves.

If we allow the ILLEGALS here shouldn’t we let all of our prisoners out too? I mean does anyone know the definition of ILLEGAL?
And lets say we do allow the ILLEGALS in, then let them in but make it a requirement that they all must be fixed. I’ve never seen so many POOR immigrants having no problem feeding 6 to 8 children and can also bring them all to the local entertainment venues? I’m curious, I wonder what job pays that much, is it called OUR welfare system? Yes, I beleive the American Dream is still alive and well, it’s just not alive for the LEGAL Americans!
