Spinning the Minutemen Betrayal

I blogged yesterday about the disturbing news, that our government has betrayed our citizen patriots. This is one issue where I completely disagree with ‘El Presidente’ Bush, and I am extremely angry. Our laws need enforced, these men understand that, and now our government is giving Mexico information that can lead to American citizens getting killed or injured.

Michelle Malkin keeps up the coverage, exposing the attempt by the Department of Homeland Security to spin this issue in favor of the pro-illegal immigration people. It’s sad that our Federal Government has to put out some BS spin to explain why they refuse to enforce their own laws.

Let’s look at the statement issued by the DHS:

Today’s report by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, “U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols,” is inaccurate. Border Patrol does not report activity by civilian, non-law enforcement groups to the Government of Mexico. During a detention of a legal or illegal immigrant that produces an allegation of improper treatment, Border Patrol reports the allegation and allows the appropriate consulate to interview the individual in custody.

This is consistent with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 that provides consular access to foreign nationals being detained by a foreign government. This is the same agreement that protects United States citizens when they travel to foreign countries.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol continues to appreciate the efforts of civilians who contact law enforcement authorities regarding suspicious activity.

Is the DHS worried that the American people might support the Minutemen as opposed to the Amnesty-pushing administration? The Border Patrol has no right to tell foreign governments what our citizens are doing legally. The Minutemen are patriots pushing for the enforcement of our laws. Malkin breaks down the DHS statement like this:

The “Vienna Convention” reference is a red herring. CBP claims categorically that “Border Patrol does not report activity by civilian, non-law enforcement groups to the Government of Mexico.”

She goes on to explain how concrete the original report was. There is no way for the DHS to spin this, because someone within the US Government has already confirmed reports that the Minutemen are being betrayed.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants’ rights are being observed.

“It’s not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be,” Mario Martinez said Monday.

Yesterday I already got into the fact that it is indeed supposed to be a secret where the Minutemen volunteers are. They move along the border, across property they’re permitted on, and set up positions to report illegal activity. A group of Minutemen may be sitting in a Canyon on Saturday and might be 5 miles away on Sunday. The type of information the Department of Homeland Security is giving out is invaluable to the Mexican government, who supports the illegal immigrants in their quest for work.

Malkin also points out that the Mexican government directly contradicts that statement. It was originally in Spanish, but was translated via Babelfish to get the following:

The General Consulate of Mexico in Phoenix has stayed in contact with the Border Patrol to ratify the request of being notified in case that some volunteer stops undocumented people, as well as the request to interview the immigrants while they are under safekeeping of the Border Patrol.

This is just another example of the United States government betraying the American people to continue the flood of cheap illegal labor into the United States. Businesses support them for money, and politicians support them in an attempt to win the Latino vote. The Republicans in Congress should know, and they should know NOW, that if they want to keep OUR vote, they’ll support America. One of the best ways to support a secure, law-abiding, sovereign United States, is to support the Minutemen.

As always, the WarZone is open to debate this issue. Let’s see if anyone is willing to stand up for the United States government on the betrayal of American patriots…
