Hey Athlonguy,

We've always had produce from abroad. When we're growing their not and vice a versa. That's why you can't outsource it along with the fact that most of these countries only produce a fraction of what we need. (I'm a chef so I've dealt with this up close)

As to your second paragraph. I think that's the central debate here. The government says trust us, we're saying why? They've never been trustworthy before, especially on this issue, and I doubt that's going to change any time soon, unfortunately.

The tomatoes in the store recently said they were from Chile. How is paying higher wages to get legal-only workers going to affect the price of these Chile tomatoes? During the winter months, 60% of produce already comes from Central America already I think.

It is sad how the proposals in Congress don't really affect the guys who just ignore all the new rules and just stay in the USA anyway. Or what about these guys who don't "pass" the criminal background check? Nothing happens to them.

Nope, nothing comes to mind.

Doesn't it seem like there should be some middle way?

Can anyone point out a government program that actually worked as proposed, or even as modified when it didn't?

Then what makes anyone in their right mind think the end result of anything proposed so far will be anywhere close to whatever it is that's projected?

This is one of the times I have pangs of wishful (read: liberal) thinking in wanting to shut down the business lobby. I know, in the long run it would be worse than in the short, but the bastards of greed are killing this country by their selfish insistence that others solve the problem when it is they who are the problem.
