Nuestro Banco, Opening In Our Country
North Carolina’s Triangle Business Journal reports (subscription req’d): “The premiere branch of the state’s first bank founded to serve Latino customers would open in Garner under the name ‘Nuestro Banco,’ which means Our Bank.”
Who is us? Who are they? And what are they doing here?
Although Chief Executive Officer David Flores [a former Chase Manhattan executive] is still working on raising the capital needed to open the doors, he’s moving ahead with key decisions and aiming for a launch in the second quarter of 2007.
. . .He and a group of local and regional backers selected the Triangle for the bank because of the large population of Latino workers and the region’s growing economy.
. . .What probably wouldn’t lag, however, is the bank’s income from service fees - most notably, money transmittal fees. Roughly 20 percent of after-tax income earned by Latinos in the United States is transferred across borders to friends and relatives.
“It’s a different kind of business plan,” Gaeta says. “But they (state regulators) have said they are becoming more comfortable with it.”
A different kind of plan, indeed. One might be tempted to call it aiding and abetting illegal aliens, helping them move U.S. dollars out of the country.
After-tax? Who are they kidding? Are we to believe that the “large population of Latino workers” are all legal, documented and paying taxes? We don’t need a translator. When illegals get paid in cash (under the table, as it’s called), they don’t pay taxes. And neither does the employer.
Across the state, existing banks, both large and small, have been reaching out to attract Latino customers with initiatives such as hiring Spanish-speaking employees and offering low- or no-cost money transfers.
. . .Flores says the name, Nuestro Banco, was tested before at least 160 people before it was adopted. “We think it says what we are trying to create,” he says.
That it does: segregation. Division according to ethnicity.
Well, as long as it’s their bank, just remember it’s our country.
Wake up, America!

It’s “OUR” country? You are a Hollywood gay-loving, immigrant hugging, drug-legalizing Californian! You don’t deserve to call this fine place your country.

“remember it’s our country.”
And who does that “our” represent? Latinos are the largest growing portion of legal Americans. They are part of us. They are the “our” in “our country”.

The solution is to have non-Latinos storm this bank as customers as it opens. Then there are two outcomes: either the bank will discriminate against non-Latinos in which case they can drag it through court or it will be yielding to non-Latino customers’ demands thereby becoming “our”.

actually, most illigal immigrants don’t work under the table, they work with fake social security numbers and have taxes and social security benefits deducted from their paychecks like everyone else. the difference is that they will never get to collect those social security benefits (or most other government benefits) because, of course, the numbers are fake. the extra annual income to the social security system from such workers comes to literally *billions* of dollars a year.
In other words, mostly young latino workers are directly subsidizing a social security system that gives money to old mostly white (because america is still 72% white) baby-boomers. that’s something old white conservatives should think about before demanding all the illegals be deported: in real dollar terms they are literally paying your bills if you get a social security check or government pension.
and the funniest part is that some of you “conservative” types insist on believing that illigal immigration from is an abberation instead of a normal integral part of the american economy that’s been going on for over 200 years.
the comedy is unbearable. stop. please. no, really, I mean it.

[...] So, basically, what he’s saying is: America should keep its borders open to illegal immigration so that, instead of creating jobs and making something of themselves, Latin leaders want to export their people (including all costs to America: e.g. healthcare, housing, education, infrastructure, etc) and simply import the dineros. They offer no greater economic plan. [...]
