Senator Feinstein: No Sense of Humor
Coming from San Francisco, that’s hard to believe.
SF Chronicle headline reporting (via AP): “Feinstein vexed by Roberts’ humor, views on abortion rights”
As Michelle Malkin rightly scoffs, “This is not an Onion or Scrappleface headline, I swear.”
Might be funny, were it not so sad.
“Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Wednesday that Roberts could be called to account for some of his humor from his years in the Reagan administration, when he frequently leavened his legal opinions with bursts of wit that could run from playful to caustic.
Feinstein, the only woman on the Judiciary Committee, pointed to one memo in which Roberts, while disparaging state efforts to combat discrimination against women, wondered whether “encouraging homemakers to become lawyers contributes to the common good.”
Disdain for lawyers transcends gender. Everybody knows that.
“He … had a sense of humor that is subject to interpretation, on women’s rights for example,” Feinstein told reporters after a speech at a downtown hotel.
Subject to interpretation? Alas, such is the nature of humor.
“Whether that was a joke, or whether it represents his real view, I don’t know. We’ll try and find out,” she said.
Just remember: actions speak louder than words. They are the true measure of a public official.
Feinstein knows that, and we recently gave her some credit for going against the liberal tide.
Please, Senator, don’t start swimming downstream. The water is shallow there, and Boxer and Pelosi are always busy splashing around.

I can’t believe I recently gave her some credit for the USS Iowa either!

Greta, don’t feel bad. The USS Iowa was/is important. You cannot help calling them like you see them.

[...] We know where Supervisor Sandavol stands. We know how Boxer, Feinstein and Pelosi are going to vote. And it’s obvious how these folks feel about it. But that’s only counting the outspoken. [...]
