L.A. Law: Grand Theft Auto — Yeah, The Game

Grand Theft Auto: Game?AP reports: “LOS ANGELES - The city attorney’s office has sued the makers of “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” for allegedly hiding porno- graphic material inside the video game, officials said.”

But what about the unhidden material?

The game, released in October 2004, features characters that commit crimes such as murder, drug dealing and pimping. The game also had an embedded “mini game” in which characters could engage in explicit sexual acts.

The industry board that rates video games gave it a mature rating but would have given it an adults-only rating if it knew of the explicit content, Delgadillo said.

You can’t make this stuff up.

So, it’s okay to kill cops, deal drugs, steal cars, murder civilians and commit hate crimes, not to mention pimping and general use of vulgarity, all for which you are rewarded with points — just as long as you don’t show any skin?

[T]he game was re-rated only after more than 12 million units had been sold, generating about $600 million in retail sales. The city attorney’s office estimated that more than 200,000 units have been sold to date in California, generating more than $10 million in retail sales.

“Businesses have an obligation to truthfully disclose the content of their products — whether in the food we eat or the entertainment we consume,” Delgadillo said.

Truthfully disclose the content?

Well, they might try this: “WARNING: PARENTS, DON’T BUY THIS TRASH FOR YOUR KIDS. CONTAINS NO REDEEMING VALUE AND PROMOTES EVERYTHING WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN NOT TO DO. SAVE YOUR MONEY. OR IF YOU REALLY WANT TO EXPERIENCE CRIME-RIDDEN NEIGHBORHOODS IN THE INNER-CITY, MOVE: THERE’S PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO’D TRADE AND HOUSING IS AFFORDABLE. BUT PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK.”

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, was part of an ongoing investigation into the marketing of video games, authorities said. The game also spurred several states to crack down on sales of mature-rated games to minors.

Been there, done that. We wish the city attorney much luck.

‘The Culture of Blame-ruption’ at its finest. I must be going blind because I’m looking at the screen and not seeing Hillary jumping on this opportunity.

The wife and I went to see this movie the other day and were quite amused by the family who brought their young child to it. This kid couldn’t have been more than five years old. They had no problem with all the blood and violence but, show some breasts and a little simulated sex and they were covering the kids eyes. You have to love parents in this country. Sure, you could blame Hollywood I suppose but I lay blame square in the laps of the parents.

Also another reason this is completely rediculous, the sex in the game is only activated through a hack. Hell you could alter games from the early 90s to show nudity, and GASP! Parents! If you give your child pencil and paper he can draw naked women! OR MEN?!! AHHH!! SUE SUE SUE!! sheesh.
