The U.N. and Darfur
When the going gets tough…
AP reports: “The United Nations has airlifted dozens of its own and other agencies’ staff out of the main Darfur town of El Fasher and said on Wednesday it was prepared for more evacuations if the already tense situation worsens.”
Example #1,531: What is the purpose of the so-called “united nations” if they don’t do anything? From Iraq to Darfur, they have proven, once again, to be an entirely impotent organization that is neither respected nor feared by any nation in conflict. They do nothing tangible, and merely exist for the apparent purpose of squandering money — and bashing the U.S., of course.
The evacuations came a day after the African Union said rebel groups could attack El Fasher within 24 hours. It added that the AU base in the town was a possible target.
“The rationale behind the decision is the heightened security concerns we have as a result of the increased presence of the Janjaweed in the town of El Fasher and other armed groups in the area,” Radhia Achouri, U.N. spokeswoman in Sudan, told Reuters.
Have we all seen those ads on TV? Y’know the ones that describe atrocities (black on black genocide) and then “call on President Bush” to take action. To pressure the U.N. and spend money. Like somehow the burden is on us.
We’ll get right on that. Right after Kofi apologizes.
They all hate us, criticize us, but they still want our money and assistance when the going gets tough. Maybe next time they should think about that before they speak out against us. But only if they know there are consequences.
