As if Iranian madman Ahmadinejad’s declaration of war against Israel and Western civilization weren’t bad enough, the Washington Time’s Colin Freeman is reporting that the main Iranian clerics are supportive of developing nuclear weapons and have even issued a fatwa regarding nuclear weapons.

Iran’s hard-line Islamic spiritual leaders have issued an unprecedented fatwa, or holy order, approving the use of atomic weapons against the country’s enemies. Muslim clerics for the first time have questioned the theocracy’s traditional viewpoint that Sharia law forbids the use of nuclear weapons. One senior mullah has now said it is “only natural” to have nuclear bombs as a “countermeasure” against other nuclear powers, a reference considered to be the United States and Europe.

If this doesn’t wake Europe up, then they deserve what they’ll get. After all, the Shahab 3 missiles won’t reach the U.S. but they’ll easily reach Europe. We can’t count on the notion that this is just bluster. This is ’serious-as-a-heart-attack’ stuff with Ahmadinejad and the mullahs. Anyone who doesn’t think that they’ll use these weapons against Israel and other ‘infidels’ isn’t dealing with reality.

That’s why the West must develop a plan to (a) eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities and (b) bring about regime change in Iran. That isn’t optional. It’s imperative. To do anything less is to not eliminate the root cause of the problem.

Dealing with root causes is vital in a post 9/11 world. Not dealing with root causes is how you accept tyrants to continue ruling in Iraq. Not dealing with root causes is how you accept not going after the Taliban. Not dealing with root causes is how you let Syria intimidate the Lebanese. That isn’t acceptable anymore.

When realists talk about stability, it’s just a fancy way of saying “we’ll look the other way.” That’s how bad situations get worse and explode on our shores. NO THANKS. I’d rather drain the swamp than suffer their wrath.
