11 Rebels Killed Near Chechnya, New School Siege Averted — Police

I found an article on WatchingAmerica.com about a “Beslan-Style” terrorist attack near Moscow. WatchingAmerica.com is a year old news-gathering agency that translates the foreign versions of newspapers and magazines around the world. More on that later. Here’s part of the article:

The militants killed in a sweep operation in the village of Tekui-Mektep on Friday had been plotting a Beslan-style school siege, Viktor Barnash, head of the Stavropol territory department for the fight against organized crime, was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying. “Five shooting points were destroyed and 11 militants were killed. Units are continuing to comb the village. The armed group was plotting a Beslan-style terrorist attack,” he said.

Russian special forces on Friday stormed two houses in southern Russia where alleged militants were holed up, after three police officers were killed in a clash. Police, acting on a tip, hunted down the group in Tukui-Mekteb, a village in the southern Stavropol region, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the border with Chechnya. The militants refused to surrender. The militants were heavily armed with automatic weapons, grenade-launchers and ammunition. The operation to eliminate them required armored vehicles and helicopters.

No civilians were killed or injured during the operation.

The significance of this article is that it’s part of the war on terror. It’s time that Americans woke up to the fact that this is a fight between competing world theories. This isn’t just a skirmish here, a little battle there. Viewed properly, they’re like different battles in different theaters in the same war.

We ignored the warning signs that started in 1979, when Iranians seized our embassy. Those warning signs continued when the Marine barracks were attacked in Beirut. The terrorists got bolder when they shot down a BlackHawk helicopter in Somalia and when they detonated the bomb in the parking garage of the World Trade Center in 1993. They sped up their pace after our timid response by blowing up the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia and our embassies in Africa and by blowing a big hole in the side of the USS Cole.

If we don’t take this seriously, if we don’t stop playing politics with national security, terrorist attacke will happen in the US. That isn’t a prediction, it’s announcing an inevitbaility.

That’s also why Democrats are on the wrong side of the NSA issue. Level-headed people across the political spectrum realize that we must use everything at our disposal to prevent further attacks.
