Virginia Route Is On

Based on this article, I’d say that the route is on in Virginia:

Things are looking up for the Republicans’ down-ticket candidates, according to the latest poll for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who is seeking re-election, and Ken Cuccinelli, the nominee for attorney general, are heading into Tuesday’s election with comfortable leads over their Democratic challengers.

The Times-Dispatch Poll shows Bolling ahead of Jody Wagner, 47 percent to 34 percent, with 19 percent undecided. Bolling’s lead is unchanged from an earlier poll for the newspaper.

Cuccinelli is favored over Stephen C. Shannon, 46 percent to 32 percent, with 22 percent undecided. Cuccinelli has doubled his lead from early October.

The findings, paired with the results of separate polls that put Bob McDonnell in front of Democrat R. Creigh Deeds for governor, could portend the first Republican sweep in 12 years.

A GOP sweep of these races would be a stunning rebuke of Democrats’ claims that Virginia was suddenly a purple state on the verge of becoming a blue state. This polling clearly shows that solid conservatives who run good campaigns still do well in Virginia.

The GOP would do well to recruit solid conservatives in red states. There’s a reason why they were red in 2000 and 2004. It’s because they prefer conservatives over squishies, liberals or RINOs.

The Virginia elections are being closely watched as a possible referendum on President Barack Obama, who carried the state last year. He is the first Democrat to win Virginia for the presidency since 1964.

Despite what Robert Gibbs said, these elections mean alot in determining the declining level of support there is for President Obama’s policies. The fact that Republicans will sweep the three statewide races in Virginia should be a wakeup call to this White House, though I don’t see them accepting that message.

House Democrats, though, will accept that message. If they want to keep their seats, they can’t afford to vote for Pelosi’s 1,990 page health care monstrosity or EFCA, especially if they’ve already voted for Cap and Tax. If you’re a Heath Shuler, voting for 2 of those 3 is political suicide. Even a Gene Taylor would put his seat at risk voting for 2 of those 3.

I can’t hep it. The term you are looking for is “rout”, not “route”.

“A rout is commonly defined as a chaotic and disorderly retreat or withdrawal of troops from a battlefield, resulting in the victory of the opposing party, or following defeat, a collapse of discipline, or poor morale.”

“A GOP sweep of these races would be a stunning rebuke of Democrats’ claims…”

More like a stunning rebuke of policies that lead to running people like McCain, or even Scuzzy-what’s-her-name in NY 43 or wherever it was.

But, then, I don’t expect the RNC to see that because it’s always easier to see the speck in someone else’ eye than the log in your own.
