Spencer: Hillary Is Weak On National Security

John Spencer, running against Hillary in this year’s senate race, is calling her to task for her weak stance against preventing terrorism. Here’s a sampling of his comments:

“Senator Clinton has repeatedly said that the greatest responsibility she bears is the protection of American lives from terrorist attack,” Spencer noted, in quotes picked up by the AP. “It’s incredible that Senator Clinton would attack the National Security Agency program that protected New York,” the Vietnam combat veteran-turned-Yonkers Republican added.

As first reported by NewsMax two weeks ago, Mrs. Clinton complained about the Bush surveillance program in a Dec. 30 fundraising letter, where she pledged to “keep speaking out about my disagreements with this administration”, including “a secret program that spies on Americans!”

I hope Spencer, or whoever wins the Republican Primary, will use her end-of-the-year fundraising letter against her and justifiying it by saying something like “I’ll continue asking this question until Sen. Clinton answers why she’s against protecting New Yorkers in the post-9/11 environment.”

There’s no way I’d give her a pass on this, even though she’s still likely to prevail. Running ads about that fundraiser, if nothing else, will put her in a box in 2008. The truth is that Hillary’s national security credentials aren’t as impressive as the Agenda Media have characterized them. The reality is that the headlines sound fine but the details show that it’s nothing but smoke and mirrors.
