Another failed Bush policy. Another illegitimate election under an illegal occupation. Iraqi is a quagmire. Iraqis want us out now. The imperialistic United States doesn’t have the right to force democracy on other countries.
*SLAP*
Enough Democratic talking points. Today Iraqis voted for a four-year parliament in the nation’s first democratically elected government. Voter turnout was so high that voting hours were extended. Violence was low while turnout was high. The Sunnis, who boycotted elections earlier in the year, turned out in droves to cast their votes as the urging of their leaders: “God will bless you with long life and prosperity if you vote! It is your duty!” Apparently they learned the lesson that isolation doesn’t put one in a good position to have influence and they don’t wish to repeat that mistake.
Anderson Cooper, CNN correspondent and anchorguy, interviewed an Iraqi woman in a polling place. Her enthusiasm for Democracy and thankfulness to President Bush and the United States seemed to not sit well with Mr. Cooper, but even his retort of, “Well, are you disappointed with anything about the election?” was met by dismissal by the young Iraqi woman who positively glowed with gratefulness for her newfound freedom. Remember, this is what voting in Iraq used to look like:

Meanwhile, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour reported that the “turnout seems to be high” in what appeared to be a despondent state of joylessness that even in Saddam’s hometown of Tikrit (of all places) the elections were a resounding success.
“The Iraqi people are showing the world that all people of all backgrounds want to be able to choose their own leaders and live in freedom,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. And showing all the world they are! VIVA IRAQ!

Can we go home now? The Shia mullahs will win the election and run the country. And throw us out after we crush the Sunni resistance. If, we leave tomorrow, Shias still run the country and maybe have to do a little more work crushing the Sunnis.
Either way, we end up with a pro-Iranian Shia government that oppresses women and all non-Shia’s, and hates Israel and the US.
So please tell me why we should stay one day more in Iraq helping the Shia’s tighten their grip on the country.
All true American patriots will do their best to get every single US soldier out of Iraq as soon as possible. There is not a single reason to waste another American life over there.

pillbox, good try. Your analysis is presumptious and faulty. Not to mention pessimistic.
Iraq will NOT become Iran (although I suppose this is your approval of getting tough with Iran?). Did you see what happened today? Even the Sunnis joined in to make their voices heard. They SUBMITTED to the process to become part of it. They cannot expect dominance so they try for particpation. This is the victory of Democracy.
Finally, my husband is one of the soldiers who’s been to Iraq for a year. We’re an active duty Army family and the military doesn’t want to be rescued by you, my friend. The friends I’m in contact with in Iraq, as well as my husband’s testimony, is that they don’t want to leave Iraq until it’s fully secure. We do not want to leave. True patriots are saying, “Whatever the commanders on the ground are saying is what we should do,” not “Whatever John Murtha says is what we should do.”
There is not another reason to WASTE another American life over there? My husband almost lost his life over there (Bronze Star, Combat Badge) and if he had, it would only be a waste if they US left before they had stablized Iraq. Soldiers don’t see their sacrifices as a waste and your comment is insulting.
May you endeavor to deserve the freedom with which you speak.
