Bush Hails Iraqi Vote As “Step Forward”
The AP’s Jennifer Loven reports that “President Bush said Thursday’s voting in Iraq was “a major step forward” in establishing a democratic ally for the United States in the Middle East and moving toward the day when American troops can come home.”

Bush, speaking alongside six young Iraqis whose purple-stained fingers signified that they had voted in their country’s parliamentary elections in the United States, said he was happy to see the turnout even without final tabulations. “We’re certain that the turnout was significant and that the violence was down,” Bush said, standing in the Oval Office before a roaring fire.
I love this image because it strikes so strongly at the heart of the terrorists, who think of women in the most degrading way imaginable. That the President of the most powerful country on the face of the Earth would invite these young ladies to the White House for a meeting and a photo-op will send these images throughout the Arab world and possibly even into Iran, where women are more oppressed than in Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.

Sen. Joseph Biden, (D-DE), said the hard part for the Iraqis would come after the vote, forming a government and writing a constitution. “The bottom line is they still need us here,” Biden told CBS’ “The Early Show.” “But the key to this is not a military solution. It’s a political solution.” Iraqis need to write a constitution that the nation’s disparate groups can accept. If they don’t, Biden said, “all the troops in America will not be able to hold this country together.”
Slow Joe doesn’t disappoint in that I knew he’d misinterpret what’s needed to finally make Iraq whole. He’s dead wrong in saying that “…the key to this is not a military solution. It’s a political solution.” WRONGO SENATOR. It’s both. You should know better. If Biden’s serious about there not being a need for a military component and an economic component to Iraq along with a political solution, then he isn’t being realistic.
At first, the Bush administration said that they were working a dual track for Iraq, meaning a political track and a military track. They’ve since modified that to include an economic track to the equasion. To guide the Iraqis any other way is foolish.
For Biden to spin it any other way is typical for Democrats, who just haven’t proven that they get it.
