I believe it is the responsibility of a Christian to donate that which is available and prudent to help victims. So states our biblical religious leader, Jesus of Nazareth. If other, non-Christians feel likewise, more power to them.

That said, I have a real hard time justifying the government of the United States giving one cent of tax monies to any victim of disaster.

That, however, does not preclude the government from supplying some emergency help through the military, help that would flat-out not be available by anyone else (such as logistics transport of food and medicines, opening roads closed by floods or landslides, etc., but not the funding of those supplies.)

Again, there are certain enumerated powers available to the federal government by the Constitution, and ALL else is specifically prohibited and/or left to the several states. Helping disaster victims (in a foreign country or within our own borders) is not one of the enumerated powers.

When the offended members of the local muslim communities in the muslim world start beating the drums of war against the United States again, it will be because we have so much and didn't give it all to that poor little pimple of a country.

It shouldn't be a question of why didn't we give more, it should be a question of why the tinhorn despots in such backwater nothings oppress their own instead of developing a viable, vibrant economy.

But, why should we care? After all, no matter what we do it won't be enough to bail them out as feel they should be.
