Bottom Line Up Front: Cardinal at the Vatican told the Pope and others that the antichirst is a pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist.
In a meditation preached during the Lenten Retreat for Vatican leaders this week, the outspoken Italian Cardinal Giacomo Biffi warned Pope Benedict XVI Excesses of ecumenism and a tendency of some Catholics to promote vague spiritual goals, rather than stressing the centrality of Christ’s Sacrifice.
“The Antichrist presents himself as a pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist. He convokes an ecumenical council and seeks the consensus of all the Christian confessions, conceding something to each one.”
“The crowds follow him, except for tiny groups of Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants. Chased by the Antichrist, they tell him, ‘You have given us everything except for the one thing that interests us, Jesus Christ.”
“Today, we run the risk of having a Christianity that puts Jesus with his cross resurrection into parentheses. The teaching that the great Russian philosopher left us is that Christianity cannot be reduced to a set of values. At the heart of being a Christian is the personal encounter with Jesus Christ.”
“There are absolute values such as the good, the true and the beautiful. One who perceives them and loves them also loves Christ, even if he does not know it, because Christ is the truth, beauty and justice.”
“There also are relative values such as solidarity, love for peace and respect for nature. If these are given an absolute value or uprooted from or placed in opposition to the proclamation of the fact of salvation, then they become the basis for idolatry and are obstacles on the path to salvation.”
Ouch! “The antichrist presents himself as a pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist.” In other words, he’ll be against all war and conflict, an environmentalist and so inclusive with Christianity that a watered-down, diluted version is what will remain.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, Cardinal!

Howard Dean is demanding the GOP denounce Ann Coulter for calling John Edwards a faggot. I hope that they do that ASAP. A number of bloggers have criticized her for it. Here’s what Captain Ed said about Coulter’s unwelcome bombshell:
First, criticizing Coulter’s use of the word “faggot” is not a suppression of free speech; it is an exercise of free speech. We’re not advocating her arrest for using the word. We’re just saying it was stupid, unnecessary, and hateful. This is no different than Melissa McEwan calling Christians “Christofascist Godbags” and Amanda Marcotte’s incendiary hate speech about Catholics. We howled about that when John Edwards hired them; why do we defend Coulter’s appearance at CPAC?
Here’s Dean Barnett’s reaction:
Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic. (continue reading post »)

Believe it or not, that’s what the Speaker of the Minnesota House, Margaret Anderson Kelliher, thinks according to this article:
Sitting amid the unpacked boxes in Majority Leader Tony Sertich’s office, Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Sertich said the top priorities are “affordable and accessible health care,” a stronger education system and property tax relief.
“Those are the big three,” said Kelliher, DFL-Minneapolis.
Add to those three a fourth element that may surprise some: fiscal responsibility.
“We’re a fiscally moderate caucus,” Kelliher said of the sprawling 85-member majority that now includes significant numbers of moderates from the suburbs, exurbs and rural areas.
This is too easy. If these DFLer’s expect us to believe that they’re fiscally responsible, then they must prove it by not proposing any new taxes. They should prove it by saying that increasing spending in one area is paid for by cuts in another area. In other words, they should adopt Nancy Pelosi’s paygo system. (continue reading post »)

COMMENTARY By BRUCE HERSCHENSOHN:
This war will either be won by those who shout “Death to America” or won by those who fight for our survival and the survival of civilization as we know it. Too bad, but there is no room for the politically-correct. To win in Afghanistan, in Iraq, or wherever the jihadists may take us, we must fight a politically incorrect war as we did in World War II in which world opinion and winning hearts and minds were not issues until after victory was achieved. Today, the politically-correct ask, “Ahhh, but what is victory?” Weird question. Victory means winning no matter what it takes. Otherwise, in this case, all is lost. All.

It’s been a long week. Let’s catch up…
Lockstep
The liberal media, and the officials they love, have repeatedly accused Israel of using “disproportionate force” with their response to the Hezbollah kidnapping and rocket attacks. Only a liberal believes a war must be fought, if they have to be fought at all, fairly.
Who knows what the Iraq situation would be like today if our military were allowed to fight war to win? Maybe if liberal media idealists, who are always looking to bust our troops while looking the other way at enemy suicide bombers and beheaders, would let them use all the force at their disposal, we might be mostly out of Iraq and Afghanistan today.
But no. Let’s fight a nice, clean, fair war.
As Israel could give a flying you-know-what about what Helen Thomas or David Gregory thinks, let’s hope they’ll show our left how a war is won. But then again, that would be assuming a liberal would willingly admit they were wrong….
A Universe Between The Ears
A few nights ago, Puerto Rico’s own Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza’s began her reign as the new Miss Universe. Sure, the media took notice when she fainted after winning the crown.
But it was what she said prior that caught my attention. According to the Associated Press, “In her pageant biography, Rivera explained what made her different from the other contestants.”
Can any of us truly imagine the screech we’d hear if Miss USA said she was told she had the consummate Caucasian look? What in her face would express her heritage, her music, or the wonderful mix of races here? A collagen lip job…?
Whatever happened to wanting to end poverty, finding a cure for AIDS, seeking world peace, and all the stereotypical banter we’ve come to expect from this annual cheesecake ceremony? Instead, this babe thinks her tight 18-year-old ass is her stepping stone to fame, fortune, and The Oscars.
She may be right… (continue reading post »)

Rush Limbaugh has been cleared of wrongdoing following his detention at a Florida airport last month when agents found a bottle of Viagra in his luggage that was not prescribed in his name, authorities said on Wednesday. The Florida state attorney’s office said the medication was prescribed by Limbaugh’s cardiologist and given to Limbaugh’s psychologist and addiction counselor, Steve Strumwasser. Strumwasser then provided the Viagra to Limbaugh. Strumwasser told authorities he agreed to have his name on the label in an effort to avoid potentially embarrassing publicity for Rush.
It is generally not illegal under Florida law for a physician to prescribe medication in a third party’s name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly.
This is the scoop from Rush, in his own words, about the incident: (continue reading post »)

The bigoted wing of the Democrat Party is alive and well. Pelosi, Hoyer, Reid, Kennedy and Hillary all refuse to denounce it.
The apparent leader of the (openly) bigoted wing of the Democrat Party is the “Mauler” from Georgia–Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. McKinney has it all-she hates Blacks, Jews and Republicans–the trifecta of bigotry. Sammy Davis Jr. might have given her a heart attack!
A few years ago a black woman defeated her in a Democrat primary–Cynthia went on to call her an “Oreo”. What if a GOP’er had called the Rev; Jesse Jackson a huckster and jive master? We all know what would happen, the Republican Party would denounce the speaker and kill their political career.
Yet, what is the difference between McKinney using her office and web site to pronounce her bigotry and the Democrat Party claiming blacks are too dumb to get jobs, so we need to discriminate and create affirmative action programs? What is the difference between McKinney and the Democrat Party that believe’s the only way woman can get government contracts is to have “set asides” for them–a guarantee of work? What difference is there between McKinney and UCLA–where every black and Hispanic student automatically gets a tutor, while white and Asian students must ask for one–UCLA believes blacks and Hispanic did not get into the school by hard work and good grades, just the color of their skin.
Is it any wonder that Hillary, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy and their ilk are quiet about the bigotry of Cynthia McKinney? She announces her bigotry by words, they announce their bigotry by legislation. Some would call this the Bigots wing of the Democrat Party.
Oh, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is an Afro-American.

So reads the headline of the S.F. Chronicle’s exclusive report today on how illegal aliens are working the system to not only secure good jobs, but also taking advantage of lax policies, lack of law enforcement, and complicit banking institutions.
Cue the violins and commence the media whitewashing:
Ramiro and Marisol looked on proudly as their 3-year-old son, Alexis, took out his toolbox and pretended to fix a closet in their new San Jose home. He was imitating the flurry of work his parents had put into the one-bedroom condominium over the past two weekends, installing new linoleum and carpets from Home Depot, painting and repairing.
With a shy giggle, Marisol, 27, pointed out where she plans to put the sofa and the TV in the tiny living room while Ramiro, 32, talked about being able to grill carne asada on the tree-shaded balcony.
They joked about how rarely they see each other. Ramiro works six days a week in a sheet-metal factory and attends night school to get his high school diploma. Marisol goes to business classes in the mornings and works afternoons as an office assistant while Alexis attends preschool.
It was a typical new-homeowner scene with one exception: Ramiro and Marisol, who asked that their last name not be used, are undocumented immigrants from Mexico. They’ve been in the country for four years. Marisol entered on a tourist visa. Ramiro hid in a car.
In other words, and according to U.S. law, they are criminals.
And their son, well, he’s an “anchor baby.”
Soon, if not already, little Alejandro will claim another seat in our public schools, taking advantage of a “free” education at taxpayers’ expense. (Oh, pardonme, they pay taxes, too. Of course.)
Their immigration status did not prevent them from buying a home. It is legal for undocumented people to purchase property in the United States.
That won’t fly in Mexico. In fact, only natural-born citizens can hold permanent title to any land. That way they don’t sell their country away to foreigners. Interesting concept.
The problem has been borrowing the money to pay for it. Ramiro and Marisol have stable jobs, but many undocumented people have spotty or nonexistent credit histories. Often, they’ve worked off the books.
No kidding. But still we’re supposed to believe they pay taxes? Right. Just like the employers are paying avoiding payroll taxes. That’s why it’s “off the books.”

“He [Michael Graham] also mentioned my abridgement of First Amendment rights, i.e. talking about campaign finance reform….I know that money corrupts….I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected, that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I’d rather have the clean government.”
