Un Dia Sin Inmigrantes: No Mas?
Evidently, many are missing the irony.
Yesterday, across America, the nation witnessed hordes of immigrant workers (many of them illegal) “step out of the shadows” and onto the streets, declaring May 1st a de facto immigrant protest holiday.
According to the AP:
Two major rallies in Los Angeles attracted an estimated 400,000, according to the mayor’s office. Another 400,000 marched through Chicago’s downtown business district, police estimated. The list was long: As many as 30,000 in Houston, 50,000 in San Jose, 30,000 more across Florida. From New Mexico to Tennessee to Massachusetts, smaller rallies attracted hundreds more.
. . .“We are the backbone of what America is, legal or illegal, it doesn’t matter,” said Melanie Lugo, who with her husband and their third-grade daughter joined a rally of some 75,000 in Denver.
Legal or illegal, it doesn’t matter? Criminals agree with that sentiment.
And, of course, San Francisco had its share of fun, too.
With streets flanked by hundreds of police officers required to ensure the peace, we found ourselves stuck in traffic, engulfed by swarms of sombreros and white t-shirts worn by men, women and children, carrying signs and shouting en espanol.
As they walked passed us, we noticed what it said on the back of their shirts: Un Dia Sin Inmigrantes. (Translation: A Day Without Immigrants) To wit we humbly ask: why settle for only one day?
In times of despair, sometimes irony is your best friend.
“We have far exceeded our expectations,” said Mahonrry Hidalgo, chairman of the Immigration Committee of the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey. “The events are intended to show solidarity and, at the same time, send a message that injustice against the immigrant community is unacceptable. This is not the end of our struggle. It is the beginning.”
Solidarity? As Americans? Or is the emphasis on Latino leadership?
In related news, the Yakima Herald reports:
School officials couldn’t say how much Un Dia Sin Inmigrantes — A Day Without Immigrants — had to do with it, but fewer students than normal were in Yakima Valley classrooms Monday.
“In the hallways it was like, ‘Where is everybody at?’ ” said Sunnyside High School junior Veronica Romero, who described her school as “empty and quiet.”
So that explains overcrowding at public schools?
Good place to start. Stay tuned for more.

Hopefully, this is just the beginning for “days without ILLEGAL immigrants”. Teachers would have more time to deal with real teaching, emergency rooms would have more time to deal with real emergencies, store personnel would have more time to deal with customer questions, and streets would be less crowded with cars because the ones being driven by illegals with illegal drivers licences and no insurance would be gone. This doesn’t even get to our criminal justice system, which is buried beneath the stench of the illegal invasion with all its abusers, rapos, thieves, druggies and murderers.
I could live with that.
Instead, I get GW and the capitol gang making me live with all of the above because they don’t care enough for their own country to save it from their own misbegotten, miserable greed, especially from such people and companies as Tyson and Cargill, both of whom allowed their workers a day off yesterday to support the rallies.
