“The Running Man” Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger: Now Playing

Arnold AdAnd so the media campaign begins.

Coming on the heels of the recent CRP Convention in Anaheim, Gov. Schwarzenegger is now going to be focusing, at least part-time, on running for re-election.

But that means, first, demonstrating success at the polls in the November Special Election.

TV ads are done and ready to roll.

According to the Governor’s press release:

The first spot, titled “Package,” features California voters fed up with Sacramento’s broken system. The second commercial, titled “Rebuild” features the Governor speaking to the people explaining his vision for California and the need to reform California this year so we can rebuild California next year.

The big government union bosses have focused their millions of dollars tearing me down because they know they cannot defeat my ideas,” said Gov. Schwarzenegger. “Now is the time to fight for reform. We have the opportunity to put our reform agenda in front of the people so they can vote for change and against the status quo that has paralyzed and broken Sacramento.”

Union bosses have raised more than $75 million this year in their fight to preserve the status quo and block the Governor’s reforms, spending tens of millions already on bogus attack ads against the Governor.

The two 30-second spots will hit the air in the next 24 hours. The transcripts and factual backup are attached. The spots can be viewed at www.joinarnold.com.

Tearing a page out from the recent headlines, California Republican Party Communications Director, Karen Hanretty, writes on the JoinArnold blog:

I have a new motto now through the Special Election on November 8th. Actually, I’m “borrowing” it and making it mine: “Don’t get stuck on stupid.”

That line was delivered today by Lt. General Russell Honore, who’s in charge of the National Guard effort in New Orleans, and I love it. It’s everything a message should be: simple, pointed, colorful.

Look, we are less than seven weeks away from an election in November that I truly believe has the potential to change the face of California politics. But the temptation between now and November 8th will be to get bogged down in the process of the past nine months.
. . .

There’s a lot at stake in November. The issues matter. Don’t get stuck on stupid.(Emphasis ours)

We couldn’t agree more.

Most western states like California have a conservative base but lack the majority that it needs to sway one way or another on any given issue. In addition, it’s very expensive to live out there especially near the water.
