Steve Frank’s Election Updates

UPDATE: 10:00PM

KCRA in Sacramento has declared both Prop. 81 and Prop. 82 as losers! Library bonds almost never lose. In all probability Prop. 82 brought down 81. Folks just wanted to say NO to the propositions. This means that the Governors bonds could also be in trouble. The 81 folks spent a good sum of money in favor, while the opponents operated out of a friends dining room!

Mistake: At 9:00 it looked like Garamendi was running away with the Democrat nomination for Lt. Governor. Well, Speier has caught up and is now leading.

Parrish has an almost 60,000 vote lead on Richman, while Steel for BOE #3 has a couple hundred vote lead on Haynes.

Strickland has a few thousand vote lead on Maldonado

Most of the Assembly races are slow to report the votes, so nothing to see there.

In the 11th CD, Pombo vs. McCloskey, Pombo has 61% of the vote.

In a very interesting situation. As of 9:55pm, McClintock was polling more votes than Governor Schwarzenegger in the GOP primary (while they are not running against each other, this should be noted because it shows the need for the Governor to build his base with a GOP agenda)

Finally, looks like for several offices, including the Democrat nomination for Guv (Phil has a 24,000 lead on Steve) it will be a very long night–might take till after 1:00am till things become definitive.

We did have a very low turnout, numbers in the next update. Orange county has many great races and they have not reported very much.

UPDATE: 9:25PM

via Steve Frank:

Democrat Governor
ANGELIDES IS BUILDING A LEAD, RIGHT NOW IT IS SMALL, TOO EARLY TO SAY IF IT IS A TREND

Democrat Lt. Governor
GARAMENDI IS BUILDING A LEAD IN LA COUNTY AND MOST OF THE COUNTIES–WINNING EASILY STATEWIDE

GOP Controller
AT 8:51 STRICKLAND HAD A 7,000 VOTE LEAD, WITH 345,000 COUNTED–STILL EARLY

GOP Treasurer
OUT OF 437,000 VOTES, PARRISH LEADS RICHMAN BY MORE THAN 50,000 VOTES–STILL EARLY BOE #3–Haynes vs. Steel STEEL HAS A LEAD IN ORANGE, SAN DIEGO AND LA COUNTIES–WITHIN 100 VOTES IN TOTAL OF OVER 125,000 VOTES

PROP. 81 — LIBRARY BONDS Losing in LA County, and losing in most of the counties — STATEWIDE ALMOST TWO MILLION VOTES — NO HAS 55.8%

PROP. 82 — REINER’S MEATHEAD ATTEMPT TO HAVE GOVERNMENT TAKE OVER PRE-SCHOOL — LOSING 40% yes 60% no

ELECTIONS OF NOTE

In Orange County the measure to severely limit eminent domain is winning big

In Kern County the Thomas candidate to replace McCarthy, Fuller is winning — no trend yet

Bill Leonard is easily beating back the SEIU candidate against him

If the 81 and 82 lose, this means voters care about how their money is spent. This will have ramifications for the November bond measures.

As of 9:00pm, no trends yet in the GOP. The Democrats look like they have Garamendi as a winner.
