Stanford Divests From Sudan

Business Times reports: “Stanford University will divest from four companies supporting the Sudanese government, which has been accused of genocide.”

“The companies are PetroChina Company Ltd. (NYSE: PTR) of Beijing, China; ABB Ltd. (NYSE: ABB), of Zurich, Switzerland; Sinopec, a unit of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (NYSE: SNP) of Beijing, China; and Tatneft (NYSE: TNT) of Tatarstan, Russia.

The university chose to sell its investments in the companies after Sudan was condemned both internationally and in the U.S. Congress for genocide in its western province of Darfur.”

Hitting them where it counts.
