*** UPDATE ***
S.F. Chronicle reports:
“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger did not announce his decision Saturday regarding Stanley Tookie Williams’ request for clemency, giving him less than two days to decide whether Williams should be spared the lethal injection he is scheduled to receive at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
Administration officials have not said when the governor will accept or reject Williams’ clemency plea
.”
Michelle Malkin reports on the Tookie Files: Tension Builds and Arnold’s Choice
“A growing debate over the planned execution of Stanley Tookie Williams hinges partly on his claim that he founded the notorious Crips street gang then renounced a criminal life in a quest for redemption,” reports Reuters.
“Williams is scheduled to die on December 13 unless granted clemency by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger”
Arnold has been hearing a lot from Hollywood celebrity activists. Now, let him hear from you.

UPDATE:
On Thursday, Gov. Schwarzenegger went on the air with Roger Hedgecock, KOGO San Diego, CA. Read from the transcript:
HEDGECOCK: Of course a lot of focused attention on Stanley Williams, a convicted killer from 1979, who has been on death row — and not only on death row, he’s been on the most intensely watched part of death row because of his continued violence. And I know there’s going to be a lot of pressure to try to commute his sentence. And again, this is sort of one of the things that conservatives are watching, because if anybody deserves the justice of the death penalty, it’s ‘Tookie’ Williams, the co-founder of the Crips gang. And I don’t mean to lobby you, but where are you going on this?
GOVERNOR: Well, we’re going to have a hearing where both sides will present their case, and we’re going to look at that and listen to it. And you know, I take these things case by case. So this is a very unique case, and I just want to have an open mind and go in there and listen to both things. And I think that’s the right way to go. I did not want to make it a public hearing or anything like that; I think this is the better way of going. And then I will make up my mind.
A hearing for both sides to present their case? Wasn’t that covered in 25 years of appeals?
HEDGECOCK: Well, when you’re in that meeting and you’re keeping an open mind, open it to what has actually happened at San Quentin while ‘Tookie’ Williams has been there, because I’ve got a couple of emails from people who were prison guards in that era — one of them for the last 16 years — and his email is an eye-popping rendition of the violence and the continued gang activity engaged in by Mr. Williams. But in any event –
GOVERNOR: First of all, I totally agree with you. And I have looked through the files and pages for hours, and I have looked at his record in prison and what has happened after he was in prison, and his behavior and all this. So I am very much aware of all of this, believe me. And I’m glad also that you stay on top of this and talk about it. This is going to be a very — as you can see in the media, it’s covered very heavily, and is very much a watched kind of a case. But like I said, I want to have the open mind, sit down in there, and then I will make my decision.
We hate to say it, but it sounds like Arnold simply wants to patronize the opposition. It’s unnecessary.

Tookie Williams should pay for his crimes with his life
I’m usually anti-death penalty in a lot of cases. Many are convicted more for reasons of not having the resources to defend themselves than the crimes they actually committed. All things being equal, would O.J. Simpson and Robert Blake be walking free…

Execution is barbaric . America is the only western country to do it. Its bloody crazy.
And its easier on the prisoneers. Which would you rather to be sat in a cell for the rest of your life thinking about what you did or be put out of your misery?.
Over here in Ireland we have had years of terrorist violence and never resorted to it because then you create martyers and every cause needs its martyers. Just look at palestine.
If you have any sense in America you will stop making life easy for murders and make them truly suffer. By letting them rot.

I believe redeemed or not tookie should pay for his crimes with his life. And with the rumors of national riots if he is executed i find very interested because i have yet to hear this so called redeemed man condem any violence by the crips or the bloods. HE should be a man and take what he has coming to him and say that to keep his voice alive do not riot no violence. The only wya i would could agree to a stay not clemency is that as long as their are no crips or bloods murders taking place tookie can stay alive but as soon as there is one he dies

Responding to #1…
Simon,
While we support the death penalty, you have made a legitimate point: stop making life easy for murders and make them truly suffer. By letting them rot.
Agreed. The only problem is: we (taxpayers) shouldn’t have to pay for it. 25 years and counting may be rotting. We believe, if the nation is going to have death penalties, the appeals process must be reformed. Modern forensics can prove guilt 100%. (And O.j. Simpson isn’t even a good example)
Beyond that, if one were serious about lettimg them “rot,” we would favor setting up an island and just dropping them off. Let them kill each other like animals. Return to nature, survival of the fittest.
Can’t remember the name of the movie (it starred Ray Liotta, and wasn’t a box office hit), but the film depicted such an island for murderers and other scum. Beyond finding the appropriate offshore real estate, the problem would be the same: activists would surely fight against such a policy, calling it inhumane.
Makes you kind of appreciate when they kill each other. Justice is carried out like the reports of pedophiles in prison: execution is swift and it’s by a jury of their peers.

Of course you should. Should people without kids pay for education. Should people without cars pay for roads. That is the point of tax paying for what the state need.
activists would surely fight against such a policy, calling it inhumane.
maybe because it is inhumane. Watch Battle Royal a japenees film. They put teenagers on a island to kill each other to teach discipline.
Executions are only bloody crazy because you are opposed to fighting evil.
and you base that on what exactly.
long as their are no crips or bloods murders taking place tookie can stay alive but as soon as there is one he dies
So the state approves hostage taking then. Whats next execute someone if some one breaks the speed limit.
why should the taxpayers support keeping convicted killers alive? Why should they be punished?
I persume that you are a tax payer. But what did he do to you. Yet you are going to have to pay for his execution. So if I follow your logic then only his victims families should pay for his execution. Is that what you think.
The murder rate in america is the highest in the western world. And america is the only country that has executions in the western world. Does that not show that executions have no effect on crime statistics.
December 9th, 2005 at 8:33 am
Simon,
Paying taxes for public schools, public roads and, of course, national defense, is for the benefit of all citizens.
Paying $40-50K a year to keep some mass murdering scumbag alive, so that he can get three square meals a day, lift weights and watch cable TV, doesn’t benefit everyone. It’s money wasted.
As for your pointing to elsewhere in the world, America may not be as tranquil as lovely Ireland (a magnificent place). And certainly our homocide rate is exponentially greater than, say, Japan. Does that not show that homogenous nations fair better? (Just to use your logic)
December 9th, 2005 at 10:51 am
Does that not show that homogenous nations fair better?
No not at all look at britian. plenty of mix there and they don’t have the murder rate. look at germany same thing. Why america has more violence I do not know .it is not to do with ethnic mix other countries have that nor is a history of violence other countries have greater history of that.
lovely Ireland
thanks always like the flattery. :)

and keeping criminals of the street is not a benifit and creating a true deterant is not a benifit to society.
Also is everything in society measure in monetary terms.

Let me first say that I am a firm supporter of the Death Penalty. But after hudreds of hours of research into the story of Stanley Williams, I found it hard not to question whether or not it would be better for him to continue his work in prison rather than be put to death.

December 9th, 2005 at 2:35 pm
Tookie’s history is well accounted for, so hopefully you didn’t spend hundreds of hours to research it.
As a conservative, you must always consider the greater good and, in this case, it’s not clemency, but rather the message it would send to grant it: namely, the law and death sentencing don’t mean anything.
Since you support the death penalty, but you’re willing to let Tookie off, than any criminal simply needs to pen a few childrens book and claim redemption. Your opinion would have to follow likewise.
First and foremost, the crimes he committed are so heinous, this thug should have been executed decades ago.
Second, if Tookie is truly such a reformed man (and anti-gang activist), why does he continue to refuse assisting police in cracking the CRIPs? (His excuse of not being a “snitch” undermines his credibility)
Third, by co-founding one of the most deadly gangs to reign for the last 30+ years, there’s more blood on Tookie’s hands by assocation. And he remains unrepentent for forming this gang. (See other comments here)
Finally, it goes without saying, if Hollywood liberals are throwing their “weight” behind a political cause, it’s usually suspect. This effort is about anti-death penalty, not Tookie’s reform.
Craig, we respect your opinion, but disagree entirely.
December 9th, 2005 at 4:47 pm
Tookie should die, not just for the murders of 4 people, but for “Co founding” the Crips gang in Los Angeles. The Crips have murdered many of their own fellow gangsters, rivals, and destroyed the lives of many innocent bystanders. For this Tookie should die.
Tookie is in the same order of murderous leaders who spew their filth unto the world. Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler, Charles Manson, and Jim Jones. Tookie should be among their names for perpetrating evil unto our American citizenry.
December 9th, 2005 at 6:49 pm
Killing Monster Williams (his real street name not the cuddly “tookie”) will save lives.
Guy STILL runs the Crips like Gotti ran his crime family. Killing him will impair the Crips leadership and make them less deadly and effective. Right now they are VERY dangerous.
Gotti’s mob fell apart after he died of throat cancer; even in prison he still ran things. Like Monster does now.
December 10th, 2005 at 5:47 pm
first of all why even put a person in death row for so many years, that’s ignorant on their part and i still think that he should be granted clemency and i didn’t say a 360 degree turn i said he changed and what harm can he do us he is still in prison unlike the leader of the people that are ashamed to shaow their face

Two notes to those who support Tooke in the Media - 1. The bulked up images of Tookie from prison do not help his image… a big, angry grimace and 20-inch biceps does not say “I’ve repented”; 2. The best way for Tookie to teach kids to stay out of …

One thing that drives me crazy in all this is the fact he wrote Childrens books. First off all his books combined from what i have been able to find out sold less then 1000 copies between all of his books. So obviously they arent doing what he said. I just think he is a murderer and should pay for what he did. He didnt give his victims a trial before death he got a fair trial and has spent 25+ yrs on death row working out at the gym, watching cable, having his laundry done for him, getting 3 good meals a day. So much luxury for a cold blooded murderer. I look forward to one less Monster sitting on death row come tonight.

One newsphoto has a glum looking middle-aged white woman holding a sign that reads, “Violence never ceases by violence; but by love alone is healed. This is an ancient and eternal law. - The Buddha”
Three thoughts:
1. The message should be directed at Stanley.
2. She’s a Buddhahead (by choice), fair game for the shotgunner.
3. Maybe she’s John Walker Lindh’s momma.

Should your fore fathers who massacred thousands of people for capital gain, chained humans to perform work they were too weak to do, rape woman and murder unborn children if they’d become pregnant for fear of their wives would find out? They were granted clemency, were they not? Have remorse been shown on their part? Who convicted and sentenced all those people the admitted to the participation of lenching? At least you guys have taken off your robs and face coverings.
