Schwarzenegger Opposes Building A Wall
AP reports: “Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday said that building a 700-mile wall along the Mexican border to deter illegal immigration would amount to “going back to the Stone Ages,” and instead urged the use of high-tech gear and more patrols to secure the nation’s southern boundary.”
We’ll conceded that he makes a valid point: As we’ve argued before, America does have the advanced technology to help monitor our borders. But just like cargo security, it’s not perfect and requires additional resources, such as guards on steady patrol.
Building a wall would provide the first line of defense.
Atop and along this wall, U.S. Homeland Security could mount both motion and thermal sensors, as well as devices to detect any impact to the fence or the ground beneath it. These technologies are all available.
By having a wall and technology to detect any intrusion, U.S. Border Patrol could safely and adequately monitor any breaches, without having to employ significantly more human resources. Thus, in a few years, the wall would pay for itself.
Schwarzenegger is right about something else. Building a wall is, indeed, “symbolic.” It shows that we’re serious about protecting our borders and homeland security.

Michelle Malkin: “Behold The Open-Border Spawn”
What happens when Democrat and Republican Party elites hook up to undermine our immigration laws?
It’s frightening.

Good for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - a Republican with some political sense, a person interested in being elected California Governor in November. At the federal level it is a different story: President Bush absolutely opposes the Border Fence where he should politically, and Senator Clinton today endorsed building a fence.
So when does californiaconservative.com weigh in on Senator Clinton? Confusing, huh? It all boils down to these extreme dingbats advocating all 11 million illegals aggressively being deported immediately - and the politician’s ability to distance himself from that. Clinton obviously doesn’t support massive deportation, without saying anything. President Bush is out carpetting the country telling people that Republicans want to deport the 11 million illegals, and he disagrees with that. Amazing.

Ahnold should pick up the phone and call Israeli PM Olmert before he starts talking about how much a wall is a bad idea. Or call his friends in China.
By the way, is that a virtual fence I see around the state capital? They look like really tall gates to me.
