Resolutions on Illegal Aliens at California Republican Party Convention

“Colorado Gov. Bill Owens signed a tough package of immigration laws Monday that could force 1 million people receiving state and federal benefits to prove they are legal U.S. residents.”

Associated Press, August 1, 2006

Editor’s Note: Despite his body-builder’s physique, Arnold is looking very weak on the immigration issue compared to Gov. Owens. Maybe he’ll get “pumped up” over these resolutions.

As the AP article shows, the people of Colorado, through their legislature, have determined to enforce the laws and make it more difficult for illegal aliens to operate in their state. When the laws go into affect, illegal aliens, like honest citizens will have to prove they are eligible for benefits. Other states, like Georgia, have done the same.

You might note that numerous cities have followed the example of Hazelton, Pennsylvania and made it illegal for businesses to hire illegal aliens, or to rent to them. In fact, most of these laws suspend the business license of such businesses. In Cincinnati, Garcia Labor Center owner has been indicted on federal charges, with a penalty of $25 million, plus 20 years in the Federal Pen.

Around the nation, cities, counties and States are beginning to do what is needed, enforcing the law, plus making sure illegal aliens receive only the benefits mandated by the Federal government. California cities like Vista, City of Santa Clarita and Costa Mesa have begun to act on behalf of the safety and quality of life of their citizens and legal immigrants.

One of the big problems is that illegal aliens come to our nation to birth babies, so that the babies automatically become American citizens…then at age 21, they can petition to allow their illegal alien parents to become citizens. In fact, cutting in line in front of those that obey the law. The United States is the only nation in the world that allows “anchor” babies. There is a move in Congress to end this practice.

Most Republicans I know, and many Democrats, believe in legal immigration and understand that immigrants have built this country. Yet, they also understand that illegal aliens undermine the rule of law, create great financial difficulties for agencies and families, and tell others that laws mean nothing.

I have found out that four resolutions will be introduced at the August 18-20 California Republican Party convention.

To read the resolutions that will be heard at the CRP convention, go to my web site, and scroll down and find them on the right side of the page. It will look like this:

The purpose of these resolutions is to help shore up the voter turnout. We need to make sure that the massive emotion on this issue helps turn out voters. Just as in the past, single issue voters will either vote for the Party that supports their principles, or stay at home.

It is in the best interest of Republican candidates, up and down the ticket to have a strong voter block. In this way, regardless of the difference of opinion on the subject between the GOP candidates, or the nuances of the candidates, those who believe that the Rule of Law should prevail, will know that the California Republican Party stands with them. Failure to pass these resolutions will cause the continuation of the question, where does the heart, political might and public policy of the GOP stand? Without these resolutions, and the follow up of promoting these policies.

What do you think? Is it time for the CRP to take a clear and precise stand on this issue?

I’m not familiar with the goings-on at the CRP, but if they haven’t yet taken a strong stance against illegal immigration yet, they need to! This is a huge issue, and for me it is the defining issue of our times. The RNC seems unwilling to take the lead on this, so the rest of us need to.
