Poizner and Richman finance an attack on Conservatives
Yup… Duf Sundheim’s hard-fought truce is now over.
I received a newsletter from the California Congress of Republicans, of which I am a dues-paying member of the Placer CCR. I am a member of every major club in Placer County. There was an article in there that excoriated Conservatives and blamed us for the irrelevance to the Republican Party in CA.
The newsletter I am referring to is the state CCR Publication that was mailed out to the entire membership of the CCR + all members of the Cal GOP.
On Page 5 of the newsletter is an article titled… New Majority Targets Los Angeles.
Sounds good on the surface… a GOP group is going to go into enemy territory and register Republican Voters. Then I read the article…
Paragraph three: “The New Majority joined with CCR in backing Arnold Schwarzenegger and other mainstream Republicans who have replaced the old Right Wing leadership of the California Republican Party.” What?
1.) I am 34 and by no means old (unless you are Andy Nevis, the Conservative Schooler).
2.) Conservatives are the “Base” of the Republican Party. Remember 2004 when frusterated liberal pundits talked about how religious conservatives came out in mass and “Altared” the vote?
3.) Mainstream = Base of the party, have you forgotten?
How can you be fiscally Conservative and undisciplined in your personal life in the same brain? It just dosen’t work. I will never relate to the thought process of someone who thinks that any lifestyle is Moral, Abortion on Demand, knowing that 98% are out of convenience… and the like… but then say we need to be fiscally Conservative.
Steve Poizner, who is running for Insurance Commissioner is a total social Liberal, but what is worse, he opposed tax cuts and backed a measure to gut Prop 13! As in making parcel taxes a majority vote!
This article in the “Grassroots” publication of the CCR went on to say that… “Also quoted in the times piece was Timothy O’Brien, president of motivational management of Los Angeles. O’Brien said he was attracted to join to New Majority because of its’ goal of encouraging a broader Republican Message. “Pro-Life and Pro-Choice Republicans for example, should be able to co-exist under the same tent even though they disagree with each other.”"
O’Brien said that the GOP Message should stress, “Fiscal responsibility and social inclusiveness.”
RC: The newsletter that came out from the CCR has numerous references to this style of thinking. While those that hold those views are well within their rights to… Why did the CCR Publication contain numerous attacks against Conservatives?
Do those who wrote these articles think that the New Majority are going to ride in like Knights on their white RHINO’s and save California from the Democrats? You need your Conservative base to win… so when you rub our faces in a pro-death, anything goes marriage agenda… you lose, because we don’t show up to support you.
You need to re-consider. Democrat Lite, dosent win. Remember, an alcoholic can still get drunk on lite beer… Why do you think that becoming more like your adversary will win elections?
Keith Richman and Steve Poizner both took out full page ads in this publication, which leads me to the following conclusions:
1.) They endorsed its’ content attacking Conservatives.
2.) They Financed its’ mailing.
Things that make you go hmmm…

Well, why do I get visions of folks busily re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic when I read articles like this?
Here we go again, liberal and conservative Republicans fighting among themselves within the California Republican Party.
My own politics range from Libertarian to Paleo-con depending upon the issue being dealt with. For instance, I agree with Pat Buchanan that we should never have gone into Iraq and for the same reasons, I do not think Pax Americana is a doable objective. I also agree with Buchanan that now that we are there, we have no choice but to fight it out to a successful conclusion.
When it comes to “life-style issues,” I am distinctly libertarian, so long as they are truly life-style issues. Where the impact on third parties (sorry, that’s the lawyer in me speaking)is minimal or non-existant, I do not believe a political question exists in such cases. These are questions of persuasion and not law.
So, am I a liberal or a conservative?
I think homosexuals should live anyway they like and suffer no discrimination. I also think they should not be afforded legal marriage. So what does that make me with regard to “gay rights” other than the fact that I irritated both liberals and conservatives?
I realize the issues here at this BLog are Conservative as opposed to Republican. However, to me the two are intertwined. The success of one depends upon the other.
When we mix the personal with the legal we get into these cat fight between liberals and conservatives in the Republican Party.
And that is where the Titanic metaphor is apt. The Republicans continue to make themselves irrelevant because of their tendency to form circular fiing squads. This has got to stop. We, speaking as a Republican, must stop wasting energy in this manner. When the primaries, where it is proper to fight out legitimate issues between ourselves, are over, they game is over. It is time to get on with with electing the best we can.
I think a good example of how to get things done exists here in Monterey County. The county chairman has quietly brought peace among the factions. As a result, Abel Moldonado was elected to the State Senate. An Republican African American county supervisor was elected and many other Republicans are being elected at the local and county level. A little peace goes a long way.
We have got to find the things we have in common and build upon those if we are to have any hope of becoming a factor in California politics.
It’s time to remember Reagan’s 11th commandment… to speak no evil of another Republican (at least once the primaries are over) and even before the primaries, to chose words carefully so they don’t come back to haunt us during the general election).
Leave it to the Democrats to find fault with Republicans.
