I am very conservative...but I still think that alot of what this special election has to say is way out of touch with the people.

1) I have heard lots of comments by our representatives and congreepeople of, "the labor unions run state politics yet only a small portion of the state is union employees," well perhaps ladies and gentelmen this is something we should take up with our elected officials. Wether you voted for them or not they are still there representing their constituency (yes ladies and gentlemen that is ou and I)......if only a few people agree with what the labor unions are saying how can our REPRESNTATIVE officials be allowed to vote the way of the union. I guess what I am realy trying to say is that the house and senate need to grow some balls and stand up for the people they are representing instead of admiting defeat and giving up...I wouldn't would you???? We the people are a force to be reckoned with....we got rid of one governor, why not force our representatives to represent us. If we restricted private business's to having to have employees vote before the name of the company could be used for political purposes we would all raise issue with this violation of our civil liberties, why then are we going to pass a law and create more beuracracy in teling the unuions they need to do this. As a matter if law in the state of California, the union must allow its members to opt out......if the employee isn't smart enough to opt out then perhaos they deserve to give up that part of their paycheck....call it union Darwin Fees.

2) Teacher quality in the state of california will continue to decline as long as the wages are not in line with the COLA. If you own, have bought or sold or even rent a house in the state of California you notice ever month how the cost of living in this state has skyrocketed, yet what are teacher wages?
I will tell you what teacher wages are...a shame....FIVE years of college and you to can have a job that starts out paying around $30,000 a year......I don't know about you but thats not going to buy a lot of house in my neighberhood. Well lets extend the Tenure out to five years that ought to help with teacher quality right?
WRONG.....the people who are "bad" teachers are going to do what "bad" anthings do...they are going to fly under the radar and then they are going to continue to be "bad" teachers.....in the mean time the schools will intentionally keep hiring people from out of state on emergency credentials (thats so they never climb the pay scale) and keep turning them over every five years....sounds like a great way to keep 'GOOD" people coming into the profession. Again here we are at that lovely crossroads....perhaps the administration should become more proactive and a little less political... school districts are very political institutions to work for. You as members of your local school district are 100% responsible for these problems...you elect the school board...and when was the last time you attended a school board meeting???? Oh yeah and even a tenured teacher is evaluated by their administrator........not guranteed a job for life.

3) Redistricting...sounds great. Whoever is gonna do it....they will do it to favor themselves...perhaps holding our elected representatives accountable for their voting records and even knowing what they are doing in Sacramento is in order. Have ou ever watched C-Span....its kind of interesting to see how they get up and leave so they don't have to vote on some things.... how about the go to work, do their job (represent their constituants and then go home) and quit playing all teh stupid political games that prevent thenm from fighting for their people.

I surely hope that Arnolds intentions are good...... but some of his implimentations seem a little rushed to me.....perhaos we could have waited for the next election and let things develop a little. I am all for balanced budgets, efficiency and quality in every aspect of our government, but creating new nightmares while trying to fix old ones still ends up with nightmares. There is no reall clear answer to the probems this state is facing, but I do notice that workers comp as not been put on the ballot nor has energ reform, I think these are things that could help put california back on top....imagine our state being on the leading edge of sustainable alternative energy ( I know I am not looking forward to 1 70% increase in my natural gas bill this winter) and perhaps creating more jobs (cutting workers comp costs) would work, but not without holding OUR GOVERNMENT reposnsible for what it does. Write your representatives and tell them what you think they should be doing for ou...if they don't respond write them again and have two simillarly minded people do teh same with exponential growth they will be forced gto reckon with the public that put them in office.

I apologize for any typo's its late and I really shoudl be sleeping...
GOD BLESS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE...

I shall start, though, with California Conservative's Carnival of Arnold. Mr. Ziffle has 500 ballot initiatives up for a vote tomorrow.

The point of Prop 78 is to beat Prop 79. If Prop 78 gets *more* votes than 79, then 79 effectively fails. It's easier to get people to vote for two "reform" measures than against one. (See comment 5.)
