Getting Out The Vote: Election Questions

We’ll leave this post open to any questions related to today’s election.

A reader writes to us:

I recently moved to a district that has mailed ballot voting. However, I didn’t find that out till this morning when I called the registrar to find my polling place because the ballot was never sent. The reason: my recent move and failure to re-register. According to the Registrar, I should still be able to vote, but as of this moment they’re still not sure where. Why this strikes me as important relative to this election: the number of people affected. I live in a rapidly growing area of Riverside County (Winchester-an area of all new homes) — NOT a rural area with low population density.

As of this moment, I have been on the phone with a live rep of the Registrar for 40 minutes, and they still don’t know what to do. I am on hold.

Any idea how extensive this mailed ballot business is? Because few people are likely to go through this hassle, a lot of people in this large suburban community probably will not be voting in this election. I think this should be investigated.

Another reader asks:

Gentlemen:
When I went to vote this am, I was asked to fill out a survey (my name, address and phone number on the survey) The survey wanted to know what my preferred language is. The survey addressed the people in the following languages, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese & English - in that order. I am really UPSET by this. English is my mother’s second language. She speaks only ENGLISH because she wants to be and wanted to be an AMERICAN first and our language is English!!!! She raised us to be proud we are Americans and has always stated that if we didn’t like it here, we could easily move out of this country because it is America.

Can you tell me if Mexico, China, Vietnam, etc have their voting ballots in English???

If anyone has answers, feedback or suggestions, please leave them in the comments.
