Costing California: Bid Fails to Deport Illegal Aliens From Our Prisons

S.F. Chronicle reports: “[California] has struggled for years to reduce the soaring population in its overburdened prisons, but a proposal that could have forced as many as 20,000 inmates who are illegal immigrants to serve their sentences in their home countries has faltered over concerns it would be viewed as anti-immigrant.”

Obviously, they didn’t ask the voters or, more importantly, the taxpayers. Besides, we’re talking about illegals, which means: The moment they set foot outside of jail, they’ll still be breaking the law. Again.

20,000 inmates at what cost per year? According to figures provided in 2004 by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, costs for imprisonment were $23,183.69. (You can bet they’re higher today, especially in California)

Simple math: We’re talking about potentially saving the state $463,673,800 or more. Taxpayer expense.

The price of political correctness is far too high.

Why don’t we just outsource our prisons to Mexico? It would save us countles millions every year and there may be actually a deterrent not to return.
