Brown vs. Black: Fox Makes No Apologies
Can’t we just all git along?
AP reports: “President Vicente Fox refused to apologize Monday for saying Mexicans in the United States do the work that blacks won’t — a comment widely viewed as acceptable in a country where blackface comedy is still considered funny and nicknames often reflect skin color.”
Point of fact: Apropos this story, there’s a street in San Francisco called Cesar Chavez St. (map) It was renamed a few years ago, and little did they anticipate its significance.
It’s an easy exit off of Highway 101, and is near many building supply centers. Every day, you will find dozens of migrant laborers (presumably all illegal) standing along several blocks, just waiting for any car to pull over and offer them work. And they do. Whether it be painting, building, gardening, or just general heavy-lifting, these guys are ready and eager to do the job. They work hard, and are grateful for the opportunity.
Conversely, there’s not one street where you’ll find equally unemployed, low-skilled, poverty-line blacks doing the same. Why?
(Note: For those eager to cry racism, this is not an accusation against blacks. Sure, poor whites could be doing the same thing. We don’t see them, either. However, poor whites don’t have Jesse Jackson and the NAACP demanding things from the U.S. government and employers)
This is not an issue of racism; it’s about ambition. Instead of worrying about an apology from Fox, maybe the U.S. (and bleeding-heart activists) should figure out the answer to this important question. Much may be revealed about dealing with illegal immigration, and more.

One good reason you don’t see other races on the street is because they can find work legally and not have to rely on being picked up off the side of the street. Temp agencies etc are the “street” for legal workers.

A few days ago Mexican President Vicente Fox said illegal aliens were “doing jobs that not even blacks want to do” and I reported about it here. Fox has repeatedly refused to apologize for his comments. On Saturday Jesse Jackson…
