Regarding Prop 75, political use of union dues, I think a lot of folks here would like to opt out now that 75 has failed. But, they don't know how to opt out. Perhaps if anyone here knows, they can post a link to the process of opting out. This way, even though 75 failed, it sorta-kinda won (if enough folks opt out). Post the link/info, and spread the word to other CA blogs!

Governor Schwarzenegger AND California Conservative deserve lots of praise for the energy expended on trying to improve their great state.

The only thing great about this state is the weather and the scenery. That's about it.

Wow, there sure are some upset liberals on this site! Such anger! So many issues! Yes, your corrupt union bosses have bought and paid for a Democrat majority in the Legislature. Unfortunately, they can't raise taxes without Republican votes, which they will never get. Arnold is still here until Jan 2007 to veto hundreds of idiot bills your union pals ram through Sacramento. You can try to "tax the rich" but "the rich" are leaving as fast as they can. Who's going to pay the bill when they leave? YOU ARE. You also should pay a tiny bit of attention to the fact that the demographics of this state are changing rapidly. The liberal Bay Area is losing population to the inner suburbs. Riverside and SB Counties are growing very fast, as most sane, solvent people leave LA as fast as they can. Villaraigosa will give the unions there free reign to continue looting and bankrupting the city. LA county is almost insolvent. The fastest growing areas of CA are the inland desert, the Sierra foothills, and the new suburbs ringing the old liberal cities. Guess what? Young married couples with kids vote Republican by a 22 point margin. You may have won today, but your future looks grim indeed.

Well this morning I'm surprised but not surprised at the special election results. Last year we decided to move our company out of CA. After the election results I can see it was the right decision. People want change but won't vote for it. It's just business (government) as usual here in CA and it is ruining the state. It's sad because I really like CA but the state has been on the wrong course for years and I don't think it will ever turn around. In reality there were on winners yesterday -- the state loses again.

After the election results I can see it was the right decision. People want change but won’t vote for it. It’s just business (government) as usual here in CA and it is ruining the state. It’s sad because I really like CA but the state has been on the wrong course for years and I don’t think it will ever turn around. In reality there were on winners yesterday — the state loses again.

I grew up about 70 miles from the picture of Half Dome on your masthead. I left California long ago and I never have been able to figure out California politics.

All I can say is I don't see how the four ballot measures really amounted to any kind of "reform".

The anti-union measure is something Republicans have pushed for more than two decades. No desire to limit business contributions to politicians, of course. Those contributions get us wonderful things like a prescription drug bill in which the government can't use it's purchasing power to negotiate prices. Just brilliant.

Re-districting? Maybe they should have brought in Tom DeLay from Texas to help. He could have raised a lot of money.

Teacher tenure? I don't know what that is even relevant to at all.

I didn't understand the spending limit measure and can't really comment, but I know one thing: the initiative process itself is what has gotten California into trouble. It is a farce.

Real-Time Election Results

New York, New Jersey, Virginia, California. Update: Kaine (D) wins in Virginia, Corzine (D) wins in New Jersey. Outside of Staten Island and the Mayoral race, not a single NYC Republican within striking distance in any race
