California Republican Party: Fall 2005 Convention (Day Two)
Fellow California bloggers, SactoDan and FullosseousFlap, are leading the coverage.
Reporting on last night’s dinner speech by Senator George Allen (R-VA), SactoDan writes:
“Sounding very much like a Presidential candidate he touched on the high points of the Republican agenda.
Limited government, capital gains tax permanent at 15%, abolish the death tax, welfare reform, school vouchers, judicial activism, energy policy. He discussed his accomplishments in Virginia in these areas. His goal is for America to stay and remain a leader in technology.”
More on the Q&A that followed, including Allen’s views on illegal immigration and border security.
[Sen. Allen] isn’t familiar with the border police idea, but knows the Federal Government has responsibility. He would do three things:
1. Secure Borders, UAV’s to surveil more detention centers.
2. Do not reward illegal behavior.
3. Comprehensive immigration reform, guest worker program.
FullosseousFlap reminisces:
“Flap remembers Senator Allen’s father, also George Allen (George Herbert Allen), who was the coach of the Los Angeles Rams  when Los Angeles had an NFL franchise.
Flap remains skeptical that the younger Allen can score a Super Bowl win to the Presidency in 2008.
The Vice Presidency?“
Blogging on Day Two, SactoDan offer some candid reflections:
“So I’m here. Am I a blogger or a journalist? The newspaper reporters we met seem friendly enough, but they seem uneasy. Bloggers in the press room? There is truly a democratization of the media going on. If the media is the fourth estate, keeping the government honest, than bloggers could be described as the fifth estate, keeping the media honest.”
Flap reveals some random notes from the inside.

“Governor Schwarzenegger kicked off his re-election campaign today at the California Republican Party Convention with a heavy emphasis on the November special election. The Governor re-emphasized that nothing has really changed with the entrenched power stucture that has a strangle hold on California politics. He says his initiatives are the next step in making California capable of handling the estimated 5 million additional people expected to populate the state over the next 10 years.”
More here, including Blogger Salon coverage.”

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, left, shakes hands with Duf Sundheim, chairman of the California Republican Party, at the state Republican convention in Anaheim, Calif., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005. Schwarzenegger announced last Friday he’ll seek re-election in the November 2006 election. The challengers already are lining up. State Treasurer Phil Angelides and Controller Steve Westly have announced they will seek the Democratic nomination. Two liberal Hollywood luminaries, director Rob Reiner and actor Warren Beatty, also have been mentioned as possible candidates. (AP Photo/Damian Dovarganes)
