A Reagan Conservative
Peter Robinson, who wrote Ronald Reagan’s famous ‘Tear Down This Wall’ speech, has an interesting post up over at NRO. In this post, he says that he got two emails back-to-back. Here’s the content of his post:
By the sheerest of coincidences, these two emails came in back-to-back. The
first, from a reader:Mr. Robinson,
In your opinion, is Fred Thompson a Reagan conservative? I ask because you actually had a chance to work with the man and would know better than most. Rush said maybe only one candidate was a Reagan conservative, but he wouldn’t name him. My measly two cents says he was talking about Fred, but he didn’t want to endorse him. Thanks in advance. The second email, from my old boss in the Reagan White House, the man who hired me into the speechwriting shop, Ben Elliott. Ben himself worked closely with the Gipper, in particular drafting some of Reagan’s most memorable economic addresses. Ben writes:
Only Thompson has a true conservative platform to defend life, liberty and American sovereignty. Only Thompson is advancing a compelling program for economic growth by controlling entitlement spending, unleashing innovation and making the American Dream real for every taxpayer. Only Thompson is committed to strengthening both our military and our intelligence and rallying the country for what must be a protracted struggle against jihadism.
Is Thompson a Reagan conservative? He is indeed.
In other words, Fred Thompson, not Mitt Romney, is most capable of uniting the old Reagan coalition. It’s nice seeing pundits that actually knew Reagan speak up on who’s the Reagan conservative in this race.
It’s great seeing these pundits tell the world that, despite Hugh’s propaganda, that Mitt isn’t a Reagan conservative.
It’s time Republicans woke up and realized that we’re voting for the next leader of the free world, not for who “looks presidential.”

Unfortunately the media is doing a number on ol’ Fred talking about the ‘fire in the belly’, third place or worse and where does it go from there.
I will keep my fingers crossed that there are smarter people out there that have not spoken up yet. I hope.

Fred scares the hell out of the pundits. Does anyone actually listen to Dick Morris? Fred is our ONLY hope this election. The ONLY conservative of the bunch.
Don;t let these talking head morons sway YOU…
Fred is the MAN for the USA!
Go Fred GO!

Hell, John, you could say that about Reagan. He wasnt out there jumping up and down! He didnt have “gravitas”. But he had name recognition, a famailiar face from his movies, GE Theatre and Death Valley Days, and the media, much to their dismay, couldn’t touch him.
Thats Fred’s disadvantage right now. The average Joe American isnt as smart as he was 30 years ago. “Liberal” education has done its damage.

By the way, regarding my remarks about Hillary’s “experience”; yeah it was sarcastic, but if you think she sat around hosting high teas in the Rose Room for 8 years, there’s some ocean front property in Arizona you might be interested in.
