AP reports: “A major portion of Los Angeles lost power Monday afternoon. Outages were reported from downtown to the San Fernando Valley.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power did not immediately have an explanation for what happened.”

UPDATE:
A spokesman for the California Independent System Operator, which manages most of the state’s power grid, said the outage in Los Angeles appeared to involve transmission lines within the control area operated by the city’s Department of Water and Power, a big municipal utility.

It was, allegedly, an “accident.”

FOXNews reports: An “employee cut the wrong line” then tried to “hook it back up to a wrong line” which “cause chain reaction” leading to “powersurge.”
