BBC Interview

Dear readers: Sorry about not getting the chance to notify but I just participated in a BBC roundtable on the merits of Murtha proposal. I joined a panel with two American bloggers, a spokesman with the Pew Research Center and the Washington Post’s Charles Babbington.

First of all, I couldn’t have asked for more. The host was a great listener and asked us all great questions. Babbington made some solid points, chiefly that President Bush had waited too long to address the issues on the war and had given away the advantage he had just a year ago.

As for my contribution, I said that we couldn’t pull out of Iraq without winning because leaving without finishing off the terrorists. I said that if we left in a hurry, Iraq would replace Afghanistan as the terrorists’ headquarter. I also said that I wouldn’t be opposed to any tweaking that the military experts make. I noted, too, that walking away is nothing short of losing.

[Editor's note: The progam was the BBC's Have Your Say World, and we will post the audio once we get it.]

    Congratulations on your BBC interview!

I wonder, can there be any possibility of winning in Iraq? The insurgency will only get stronger, not weaker. America has made a grave error of judgement. To ‘win’ at all costs sounds like something administration people wanted 40 years ago too, in Vietnam. There is already civil war going on in Iraq. The US helped start it. I think that withdrawal, reparations and a public trial of Mr. Bush and his associates is in order…
