Los Angeles County Seal-ACLU Deal
The battle for the original Los Angeles County Seal has been tainted from the very start.
Little did the supporters and community leaders know that a deal had already been made between three Supervisors and the Leadership of the ACLU. A deal which was deliberately kept from the Press and the people.
When covert negations are rushed and kept from the light of public scrutiny, the possibility of error and injustice are increased.
The ACLU does not want us to proceed as too much attention has been brought to the issue and the ACLU already. The executive director has denied any lawsuit was drawn up and wants us to go away. She has refused to on record and refused to answer questions or appear on the Emmy award winning show Full Disclosure Network with Leslie Dutton.
Well, that is just too damn bad, we are not going away and are more committed than ever.
We have already requested all documents pertaining to the proposal made by the Supervisors to the ACLU in closed session prior to the June 8th rally and meeting. We have also requested any and all documents pertaining to the acceptance of the proposal by the ACLU.
This was and is the case of the Los Angeles County Seal.
Each of the symbols on the original seal represent a specific contribution to the history of the county. In order to prepare our petition we secured copies of the original county documents, letters, transcripts and clerk notes beginning in 1954 and ending March 4, 1957 which addressed the adoption of the seal.
No where in the documents does it mention the California Missions, San Gabriel Mission or the contributions of Catholicism.
As you can see five of the symbols stand alone in their section.
The section containing the cross is clustered with the Hollywood Bowl.
It is for good reason that the bowl and the cross share a space. The individual responsible for the success of the Hollywood Bowl is the same person who established the Pilgrimage Theatre. A theatre where a „fuller understanding of the great religions and philosophies of the past‰ could be achieved. All Religions!
By replacing the cross with a Catholic Mission, the Board and ACLU have not only violated the First Amendment of the US Constitution, they have disgraced the Religious History of the County.
