Democrats: The Party Of Poll-Driven Panic
Jonah Goldberg’s column is spot on: Democrats are panicking over health care reform, which is causing them to lash out at the average working people they’ll need if they want to keep their majority in the House:
The Democratic Party is panicking, lashing out like a cornered animal, all because its effort to take over the health care industry is coming apart like so much wet toilet paper.
Nancy Pelosi, who will get her own bound volume in the annals of asininity, has outdone herself. When asked by a reporter whether the protests at various town hall meetings represented legitimate grassroots opposition or were manufactured “Astroturf” stunts, she replied, “I think they’re Astroturf. You be the judge. They’re carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care.”
Now this is a pas de trois of dishonesty, slander and idiocy. Not only is Pelosi lying when she says protestors are bringing swastikas to these town halls, not only is she suggesting that American citizens are Nazis for having the effrontery to get in the way of ObamaCare, but she’s also saying that the alleged swastikas are obvious proof that these protests are manufactured by slick P.R. gurus.
What type of evil person would try selling the notion that people who are afraid of losing their private health insurance are swastika-wearing hatemongers? What type of person has the type of imagination that allows them to utter such profanities? It’s what happens when a spoiled brat throws a hissy fit.
Most importantly, it’s what happens when We The People tell the spoiled brat that we aren’t interested in the crap that she’s peddling.
It’s also what happens when big dreams vanish into thin air, when people start registering their disapproval with pollsters:
Unlike most polling these day, Democracy Corps does try to maintain a semblance of credibility and looks at likely voters instead of all registered voters. And among their pool of likely voters, 53% of those likely to vote in 2010 think Obama is too liberal. The same number think he’s going to raise taxes. 55% think he doesn’t deliver on his promises.
Oh, and Republicans lead Democrats by 13 points on the issue of who will be a better steward of our tax dollars.
SUMMARY: Democracy Corps polling shows that the American people don’t trust President Obama to keep his promises at the same time that like voters don’t trust Democrats to spend our tax dollars wisely.
That’s the worst possible set of poll results Democrats could find at this crucial juncture in the health care debate. Why would people give Congress the go ahead to manipulate one-sixth of the U.S. economy when they think Congress will waste that money?
Rather than listen to their constituents, Democrats are being given special instructions on handling the supposedly angry mobs:
“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting.
The hourlong session was the last opportunity for Democratic leaders and the White House to prepare senators for what will be a crucial month in shaping public opinion on health care. With no final legislation to promote, senators have expressed concern about dealing with questions and criticisms about the almost $1 trillion overhaul. The spate of confrontational town hall meetings have raised the stakes.
“They are just helping us understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Sen. Reid is full of it. Axelrod’s gang of thugs are teaching senators how to be Chicagoland thugs. This arrogance is disgusting. Never should We The People put up with a bunch of thugs whose entire agenda is to get their way by using violence and intimidation rather than by winning on the intellectual battlefield.
It’s accurate to say that the tactics that Axelrod and Messina are advocating are the tactics that were used during the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago.
This administration is quickly becoming exposed as a collection of Chicagoland thugs. That can’t help after President Obama ran as a post-partisan politician and a healer of all divisions. I never bought into that image. Now I’m being vindicated for doubting that image, as are many others.

I’m a regular reader of your great blog. Great work! But like many others (that being middle aged, male, conservative) in this country - I’ve had it! These elite politicians had better study some history about waking the sleeping giants in this country. We’re pissed and we’re going to let them know it. Do they really think they can hide from us? The worse thing for them is that they’ve lost all their credibility. Without that - they have nothing.
August 7th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
I wouldn’t be too confident that its over. They’ll pass it anyway. They are just that drunk with power. They are daring the voting population to kick them out next year. And I would really be surprised if they did.
Acorn, the union goons, and all the other brownshirts and everybody on that hayride will come to the rescue.
August 8th, 2009 at 7:23 am
Hey Navy, me too (A-7 driver). “Drunk with power” is a perfect analogy for these elitists. That power is incredibly intoxicating, but I think they’re about to hit the end of the bottle. Yes, this Congress can vote it in without a single Republican vote, but they’re not that stupid. In the general election next year it will be such a landslide even the cheaters you mention will not be able to overcome the difference. That only works in a close vote, and it ain’t gonna be close.

John,
Sierra Hotel shipmate! Anybody that can fly an A-7 has a big pair of ‘em in my book!
Im a grease pencil and guts AIC that did flight following and targeting for a bunch of you guys off the Kitty Hawk and Enterprise in Nam during Linebacker Ops.
August 8th, 2009 at 9:44 am
John, don’t be so sure it’ll be a runaway for the good guys. First, the donks won’t allow this monstrosity to get started before Jan 2011. That will prevent the Republicans from using it as an overwhelming campaign issue.
Second, once the program is started the nazis will make sure everyone will have as much of the intoxicating candy as possible, and it will be that way until Jan 2013, just after the next presidential election. That way His Hollowness can righteously point out how wonderful his program is working for all us unwashed masses. Once he has been sworn in again, then he can take off the gloves, cut back the services, beat up the complainers, throw the protesters into FEMA camps and go on with his program of self-aggrandizement and deification.
In the meantime, the program will be whittled down to where, if you don’t belong to one of the favored programs (like ACORN, SEIU, unions, etc.) and show that you’re actually active in that program, chances start dwindling for you to get any healthcare at all.
Like I said, don’t count on this being a “shoot-themselves-in-the-foot” moment.

Hey Middleclass Right Wingers:
Haven’t you learned from the actions of the past administration, that the right wing politicians are not for the middleclass people, but to support the rich! Maybe you are not a middleclass servant that will be paying more taxes because of your earnings, than I understand your greed.
Peace,
A True American Veteran

Middleclass Right Wingers:
You don’t have to kiss-up to the GOP (Greedy-Obnoxious-People). You will only get your nose dirty.
The wealthy is not for us middleclass servants, they are only thinking of how they can gain more wealth by screwing others, including our Country.
Rush, is not for the middleclass people. He is no longer one of us. He is for the rich and Bernie M. type of people. They will tell you anything to get you on their side.
Wake-up middleclass; do not be fooled by the pigs of the so-called conservatives.
Do you call someone that does not want to pay their share of taxes to their country, patriotic?
Do you really believe that the people that are in the oil, pharmaceutical and health insurance business, wants to help you?
Look at who you are, be honest with yourself, and think who is for you, not the ones that do not want to pay their share of taxes. They want you the middleclass people, to pay for their share of taxes, not their percentage equal to your percentage of earnings.
Be a leader, not a follower to the pigs on the right.

When 75% of Americans supported the Iraq War, this didn’t dissuade leftists from forming organized resistance to it and undermining our policy (and our soldiers) with lies about the casus belli and our successes. They consider the reversal of poll numbers as justification for their brutish tactics.
Instead of hatred and lies, conservative and independent protestors are fighting Obamacare with TRUTH and loyalty to our nation and its values.
It’s true that liberals are not fully representing all aspects of their plan. It’s true that liberals have a thinly-veiled agenda of eventually crowding out private insurance. It’s true that they will increase, not decrease costs. It’s true that the actual costs of this policy are much higher than advertised. It’s true that, even if we wanted this, now is not the time to experiment with trillions of dollars.
Up to this point, all of Obama’s “town hall” meetings were STAGED events with pre-selected questions:
http://powinca.blogspot.com/2009/03/endlessthis-campaign.html
Obama and the Demon Rats have broken their pledge of bipartisan, transparent, and open debate. They are ramming and jamming their left-wing policies down our throats.
Now the Demon Rats are sending in their Brute Squad - the jerks in the purple shirts (the SEIU) who, by the way, have THEIR medical care exempted from competing with the government plan.
Frankly, I’m glad things are happening this way. In the best case, Obamacare will fail just like Hillarycare, and Obama will be a weakened and humbled loser. In the intermediate case, this plan will pass and when the negative effects start to add up, the Demon Rats will lose their power in government. In the most extreme case, this will erupt into open fighting and we will have a legal claim to self-defense and the moral justification to cut down these thieving thugs and looters.
I am for the first time reading Atlas Shrugged. I’m struck by the horrifying similarities of Ayn Rand’s dystopia and the current government. It’s almost as if Obama and the Demon Rats are using Atlas Shrugged as an instruction manual. Although Ayn’s writing is laborious reading, her protagonists idealized, her Objectivist philosophy riddled with problems, and her vision of utopia unrealistic, it’s truly amazing that a book written so long ago seems prescient of contemporary issues.

Hello honorable soldier now serving:
Think of who is paying for your salary and where does it come from.
Is it coming from your government through everyone’s taxes? If we do not pay our taxes, you may not be paid. Therefore, that is why everyone should pay their fair share of percentage in income tax, which is equal to the middle classes in matching percentage, not equal to our dollars earned. So why are the GOP politicians complaining about raising taxes, when they are also paid from them…go figure.
Americans like me are proud to take care of American people that need assistance.
I want to see how the GOP would pay for running this country, if not through our taxes.
They are the first to send your manufacturing jobs over seas, so their wealthy business owners crony’s would benefit and make a bigger profit.
They tell you that your Medicare insurance would not cover the elderly. Lies.
If the pharmaceutical manufactures the elderly, who are they to keep alive. Give a thought.
Who would benefit from lower taxes? The poor and middle class people? Run that through mind.
I say your all being deceived just as if we were for let us finish the war Presidential campaign of ‘04 …we promise we will end it with a win.
Put that to work in your minds.
Do not be fooled again, see what the GOP (Greedy Obnoxious People) are trying to fooling you into thinking they are for the middle classes.
Peace,
A True American Veteran
August 8th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Well, Middleclass, let’s look at what you say. You say the GOP is the party of greed and insinuate that anyone who is rich is automatically of that party and out for himself, i.e., greedy.
I won’t necessarily disagree with the end result, but consider this: the two jackass politicians who ran for prez before the present one were more wealthy than any Republican president in history, including Reagan. Just because the platitudes coming out of their mouths said they favored the common man didn’t mean they actually did, and consequent events have shown how neither did. And that doesn’t even touch on what big fools each was.
And as far as backers for them (and His Hollowness) go, they easily overmatch the Republicans with billionaire and millionaire backers. The difference, as shown by Obama, is that when meeting with just the privileged elite, they show their true disgust and disdain for us common folks.
Are the Republican elite disgusting? Of course they are. But certainly no more so than the disgusting, lying, cheating and hypocritical donkeys, but at least they don’t play to the base fears of classism and racism.
August 8th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
A POWCA, prove to me your POW status from what war? Gulf War? You are just another GOP swindler by my books.
What about helping other Americans who are less fortunate than you and me? Too cheap I think so, because I doubt if you were even a POW of any war.

A Carlos, I don’t know where your coming from. You must be fed up with our present politicians. Is that right? Therefore, you are probably an Indi-freak. One that does not know what they are voting for, giving the candidate for President the Indi-freaks had. I understand your confusion of who is helping you. If you Indi-freaks ran this country, we would still be living in caves and sweating our summers.

Hey Middleclass, that cool-aid taste pretty good does it?
Just look at who these people are at these town hall meetings.
They aren’t a bunch of smart assed kids bussed in to make noise. Their grandparants, and older folks like me that are sick and tired and being over taxed, talked down to and lied to by BOTH sides. Ive had it with all these clowns! We arent dumb. Somebody puts out something that has to do with our personal health care, to hell with politics, I want to know what is in there first.
This isnt about politics. This is about opening your eyes, asking questions and getting some straight answers from these arrogant bastards.
How in hell can can these people put out an 1800 page document and say, Oh dont worry, there’s nuthin here for you to wory about. Horeshit there isnt! It may or may not be a good plan, but dammit to hell, lets take a look at it first!
August 8th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
I still think these politicians are vastly underestimating the intelligence and memory of the American voter, veteran, and red-blooded citizen. In my flying days, we called it SA, or Situational Awareness. By ignoring and worse, distorting, the honest emotions and concerns of the folks showing up at these town hall meetings regarding our country and the direction it is headed in right now shows an incredible lack of SA. The MSM is a joke as well. Carlos, you are already seeing the lib’s game plan, and others will too. Thanks for the clarity of your analysis.
Americans are paying attention right now and the pols are running scared. My little world and understanding is on a pretty steep learning curve right now, but books I’m into like Liberty & Tryanny, Culture of Corruption, Common Sense, and Catastrophe are all giving me the ammo to talk sensibly, and accurately, about these issues. They’re not pleasant reading, often times they take me down a path that even gets me madder. But they really help. So does bourbon….
I am a docent on USS Midway Carrier Museum here in San Diego (yes, also a CA-POW). It’s a volunteer thing that I really enjoy (especially since I have a few hundred traps on her), but the real payoff is when guests shake my hand all day thanking me for my service and commitment to my country. That’ll never die………..

Arnie Duncan US Secretary of Education Admits that much like the Chicago Public School system that he once headed, more then 50% of Americans sent to Re-education Camps do not graduate.
Americans that do not graduate from Re-education camps are sent to Siberia (formerly known as Detroit)
90% of Chicago Public School Children Believe That Military BARRACKS used in the American Re-education camps are named in honor of President Obama.
Stopthepresses psychics (psycho chics) using advanced crystal ball technology predicts that very soon the used car market will be flooded with repossessed cars. Thanks to the government’s Cash for Clunks program, giving money to people that otherwise could not afford to buy a new car and keep up the car payments. Another home mortgage type fiasco brought to you by the Democratic Party.
August 8th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Thank you, John. Kind words.
Middleclass, you are as confusing as your masters, the jackasses. I haven’t a clue what an “Indi-freak” is, I doubt seriously more than a few of the readers here do, so why don’t you clue us in and let your audience decide just how full of it you are.
I am a very independent voter who judges candidates by several measures. One of them is how smoothly he/she talks around questions without answering. Another is by looking at the voting/action record of each candidate (if he/she previously held office). Our present glorious leader was a master at verbal evasion and outright lying, and what little voting/action record he had was astoundingly lacking in common sense and respect for the Constitution he has sworn to uphold.
On the other hand, I can tell that you can’t be concerned with valid arguments on any issues here because you’ve not addressed one yet.
That being the case, why don’t you go back to your masters and get your next set of marching orders (like what townhall meeting to go to to beat up some old person or off-the-plantation person of color)?
August 8th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
John,
Were you on Midway during Yemen festivities in 78? I was on the England then, we were the force Alpha Whisky.

Hey Fish:
Still drinking saltwater? Don’t you know that it will make you sick and cause you to hallucinate and believe your seeing and hearing things that are not there, or true? Didn’t
the USN teach you that in the twenty years you served you had?
I agree with you that we need changes in Washington.
I agree that you and me being middle class, are being taxed a lot. Do you not realize that you, me and the middleclass tax payers are paying the greatest amount of taxes, per dollar we earn?
I pay over 30% of my paycheck to State and Federal taxes.
A Fish, I got a question for you.
Now do you believe that someone making only a million dollars annually, pay 30% ($300,000.00) of their income to State and Federal taxes? Now even you should be able to figure that one out.
If you ask me, I would say, “No way!!
I think being a wise senior citizen like you, would say the same. “Right!!
Now what party does most of the wealthy, so-called taxpayers living in the USA belong too?
The GOP because they are on there side. Therefore, I think the lesser of the evil parties would have to be, the dam donkeys.
I myself think there should be only one party.

USN Ret: Had to just look at my Midway plaque to see my dates on board. I left Midway in July 78 after three glorious years, so I guess I missed that Yemen thing (not familiar anyway). I was on board (and in Yokosuka) when those Army officers got hacked down on the DMZ in Korea - we were immediately underway and seriously preparing after that incident!
Carlos: It’s not worth it with Mr. NoClassAss here. He uses too much of that Kool-Aid enema. I kinda feel sorry for him, not knowing which end is up, which shows with his ignorant comments. I can’t imagine living with such hate inside yourself - really sad.
Here’s my message: As John Paul Jones was seemingly getting his ass kicked in an epic sea battle he shouted back after being told to strike his colors by his opponent:
“I have not yet begun to fight!”
August 9th, 2009 at 7:55 am
I guess you mean me. My Marine buddies call me a squid, by the way, not fish.
Well, if you think there should only be one party, I guess your in the right one. Because thats where all the Marxists idealogues and those that seem to think its immoral to be wealthy are, as long as they aren’t Democrats, of course.
The Democrats have a lot of guzillionaires in their party as well. Care to guess how much Pelosi is worth? Or Feinstein and hubby with all the bucks they pull in from defense construction projects she steered his companies way? And then there’s Hollywood.
Look, I am not jealous of the wealthy. I dont care how much somebody makes. Or what party they belong to.
Nor do I believe they owe this government anything for being successful, other than a fair percentage of what they earn, or that the government has any right to confiscate, tax, or force them to pay any more than that.
Right now the top 10% pay in around 90 to 95% of the total tax revenue.
You think thats fair? I think its more than fair. I think its confiscatory, and if I were in their place, I’d be looking for someplace overseas to shelter some of my income, which is exactly what they do.
Peace to you, buddy.

Carlos, Carlos, Carlos, you had better stop drinking that, it’s making you nauseous, even will give you that headache you have. That headache is not from that tight band around you or head, which you keep tightening thinking it will relieve your pain. Maybe if you took a little break from looking at your computer screen, it might letup a little. Is not it the time for your bed. Don’t you have to rest, so you do not get more delirious and see the room start spinning? Don’t worry, I won’t go away. I will be here in the morning.
So catch your zzz so you can think more clearly, enough to understand what I’m telling you.
Carlos, you can’t figure out what an Indi-freak is? Sad, you do need some rest.
If you being an Independent voter cannot figure out what an Indi-freak is, you should take a break, take some sleeping pill, and say good night.
Your brain must be getting old and working over time.

John,
Yes, you just missed it. I was off a year, that happened the following spring, after the Ranger had an unfortunate meeting with a Taiwanese tanker in Malacca straights, and Midway came to the rescue, like she always did.
Re: “I have not yet begun to fight”
Or as another great Admiral once expressed the same idea, paraphrasing,
“(Our country) expects that every man will do his duty”
That was Horatio Nelson’s flag hoist before Trafalgar.
August 9th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Gee, thanks for the answer, Middleclass. That sure cleared up a lot.
Your savior would be proud of you. He’d still think you were a worthless pile of crap, good only to lemmingly lead to the “proper” vote come election day, just like he thinks of the rest of the masses, but he’d be proud you can regurgitate what you’ve been trained to thoughtlessly spew.
BTW, I’m retired, can get up and go to bed whenever the spirit moves me, have plenty of time to get chores and honeydoes done and still (obviously) contemplate real problems, real solutions and run circles around your sorry mental butt. Also, you may wish to contemplate returning to school some day to take a class in remedial English.
