Cleaning Up After Katrina: Which Nation Will Lead The Relief Effort?
Tuesday, August 30th, 2005
Not to make hay of a tragedy, but all life is politics. Just the facts.
With Hurricane Katrina dominating the headlines, leading the networks, FOXNews is providing ongoing live coverage.
In discussing worst case scenarios, one of the newscasters this morning remarked: “[New Orleans, Louisiana] could turn into our Bangladesh.”
Of course, he was referring to the expected tidal flooding, the mass destruction, the pollution, the loss of public utilities, the millions left homeless, not to mention the possible loss of lives.
The rebuilding will take months and years.

Which makes us think back to America’s past efforts to assist other countries in crisis, such as the recent aid for Africa and the global tsunami relief for Sri Lanka come to mind.
Wondering which nation — especially France or Germany — will be the first to offer us a helping hand?
Where’s the foreign aid for us?
Or is America’s generous charity only a one-way street?
We hope Huricane Katrina will be more forgiving.
(8/30) The headline says it: “Catastrophic”
Such is the damage left behind by Katrina

“The initial damage estimate of $9 billion now seems waaay too low. Already Associated Press is reporting new estimates of $12 to $26 billion. The revised estimates, released late yesterday, do not take into account this morning’s flood.”
